the second is that the argument that the south was “prostrate” and exploited under reconstruction regimes depends on writing 4 million black southerners out of the polity and ignoring how, in several states, they constituted the majority of the population.

I broke my right ankle on Sat when I stepped in a hole while clearing leaves. Having surgery this afternoon. Thanks to my amazing family for all of their love and care. Also, want to thank my colleagues and admin who have been very supportive.

There may be real tradeoffs at a certain point, but reading a certain section of twitter you might get the impression we can't have paid family leave and child allowances without giving up second bedrooms and washing machines, which just doesn't seem true at all

1996 was my first time voting. I voted for Dole/Kemp. I was already moving away from the right, but I still viewed Kemp as a good guy. I also supported Dole in the 1988 primary. But I was 11, not sure it that counts.
