Backstage, Rene Zellweger says her performance in "Judy" was really as collaborative process: "The only thing that I did by myself is sing in the car on the 405 in traffic for about a year."

Although the press is supposed to be impartial, it's not been uncommon over the past 25 years I've been here for the room to burst into applause when a winner is announced. But I've never heard a louder cheer than the one for "Parasite." Deafening.#Oscars2020

This doesn't make up for Judy Garland never winning an Oscar (especially the loss for "A Star Is Born"), but it helps.

Is anyone surprised Joaquin Phoenix won for "Joker"?

Bong Joon Ho wins Best Director for "Parasite" and gives Martin Scorsese a shout-out. A class act & well-deserved Oscar win. Thought Tarantino would get this one, but not unhappy to be proven wrong. Could "Parasite" be first foreign-language movie to win Best Picture? #Oscars2020

No Oscars yet for "Joker" or "The Irishman." Could both oft-nominated movies go home empty-handed? (I'm still feeling good about Joaquin Phoenix getting Best Actor for "Joker," but "Irishman" may well be this year's movie-that-gets-a-lot-of-nominations-but-no-wins.#Oscars2020

Laura Dern, who turns 53 tomorrow (nice birthday present), strking a blow in support of female movie directors, and one in particular: "If I could give this Oscar to Greta Gerwig, I would do it right now.#Oscars2020

Laura Dern, on being the 1st in her family to win an Oscar (dad Bruce Dern and mom Diane Ladd have been nominated): "I went backstage and people were telling me my mother was very moved. That just makes me so happy... They literally got me here.#Oscars2020

"1917" wins a Best Cinematography Oscar. I detect a trend, and a possible big finish for that movie....

"Once Upon a Time...In Hollywood" wins a Production Design Oscar for re-creating 1969 Hollywood. As the winners noted backstage, L.A. doesn't do a great job of preserving its history, so kudos to winners Barbara Ling Nancy Haigh for making it look so real. Great stuff.

Laura Dern gets some Oscar love, finally. (Still have a soft spot in my heart for "Rambling Rose"). Neither dad Bruce Dern nor mom Diane Ladd ever won, so this makes up for some past neglect.#Oscars2020

Best Documentary Oscar winner "American Factory" got a showing at 2019's Maryland Film Festival. Another reason to check out one of America's great cinematic showcases; you never know what future greatness you'll see there. Congrats to the filmmakers, and to the MdFF.#Oscars2020

"Parasite" and "JoJo Rabbit" win the Best Screenplay Oscars. Fascinating, non-traditional choices. Could be an interesting night.#Oscars2020

Brad Pitt backstage, on why he decided to go political (at least a bit) in his Oscar speech: "I was really disappointed with this week. When gamesmanship trumps doing the right thing, it’s a sad day...And we shoudn't let it slide.#Oscars2020

Really liked the multi-lingual "Frozen 2" song. Kinda moving, bringing people of all kinds together, like the best movies can. OK, I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff...#Oscars2020

Not sure the fourth movie in a series has ever been considered for a major Oscar, much less won one. "Toy Story" has been an amazing franchise. To infinity...and beyond.#Oscars2020

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt won himself an Oscar. The only one of the nominees never to have won an acting Oscar before. And it all started with "Thelma and Louise." OK, no surprises yet.
