I was standing in line at a coffee shop when the cashier accidentally gave me someone else’s order.
Before I could say anything, the man waiting behind me smiled and said, “You can just keep it. I’ll take yours instead.”
The problem?
His drink cost almost twice as much as mine.
When I pointed that out, he shrugged and said, “Come on, it’s not a big deal.”
Maybe not to him.

Sometimes it takes years to realize that what you called “normal” was actually emotional neglect.
Many people do not fully understand the impact of their childhood while they are living it.
Sometimes they spend decades normalizing neglect, abuse, parentification, favoritism, rejection, or emotional unavailability because it was all they knew.
There is no such thing as being too old to understand your pain.
And there is no such thing as being too late to heal.
