What does it take to turn agricultural production into reliable income for farmers? Market access is essential to transforming harvests into sustainable livelihoods. Through the Kungahara FOSTERING Project, @FXBRwanda in partnership with @E4Impact_Rwanda are empowering 30 farmer cooperatives not only to increase production, but also to secure dependable markets for what they grow. This shift from production alone to production with structured market linkage is a critical step toward long term stability. So far, 18 contracts have been signed between supported cooperatives and potential buyers. This milestone represents more than agreements on paper. It signals progress toward stable and predictable revenues, reduced uncertainty, and stronger bargaining power for farmers. To further strengthen post harvest management, two Fruits Collecting and Sorting Centers have been fully constructed and are nearing operationalization. These facilities will play a key role in improving produce handling, quality control, aggregation, and sales. By enhancing standards and coordination, they position cooperatives to meet buyer expectations more consistently and competitively. In addition, all 30 supported cooperatives are now actively using a B2B digital platform developed by @E4Impact_Rwanda. The platform enables cooperatives to better manage their businesses, connect directly with buyers, and streamline transactions. Digital tools are central to modern agribusiness performance. By bridging farmers to structured markets and digital systems, the project is fostering resilience, professionalism, and long term economic empowerment across participating cooperatives. #KungaharaProject #MarketLinkages #Agribusiness

Did you know that agriculture employs more than 60 percent of the Rwandan population?
Yet many households still struggle to access enough nutritious food.
This shows a gap between the hard work farmers put into the fields and the ability to ensure stable food security at home. Through the @EUinRW-funded KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project, implemented by @FXBRwanda in partnership with @E4Impact_Rwanda, farmers are gaining the skills and support they need to close that gap.
The project provides practical training in sustainable agriculture.
Farmers learn how to protect the soil, save water, and increase yields using climate-smart techniques.
They also learn how to reduce post-harvest losses and improve the quality of their produce from the field to the market. The project strengthens market access.
When farmers are connected to reliable buyers and fair pricing, they earn income that allows them to reinvest in their farms and improve their standard of living.
Strong markets build strong rural economies. Nutrition awareness is a key pillar.
Families are trained on diversified diets, nutrient-rich crops, and healthy feeding practices.
Better nutrition leads to healthier children and empowered households. Agriculture can do more than feed communities.
With the right support, it can create stability, income, and dignity for rural families. Watch the full video. #FoodSecurity #SustainableAgriculture #RwandaDevelopment

👕 Lack of school materials and uniforms is one of the main reasons children from vulnerable families drop out of school. As part of the FXBVillage Mageragere Project, FXB Rwanda recently provided school uniforms to 103 new students at GS Burema and equipped school clubs — health, environment, and anti-drug — with sound systems and essential materials to help them raise awareness and inspire positive change among their peers. 🌿💬 Because when a child is well supported, their future shines brighter. 🌍💙 #FXBVillageFXB #FXBRwanda #EducationForAll #EndingPoverty #RestoringDignity

GOOD NEWS‼️ Recently, @FXBRwanda held the Steering Committee Meeting for the KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project. The meeting brought together key partners from @EUinRW , @RwandaAgri , @RwandaAgriBoard , @E4impact_Rwanda, @GakenkeDistrict and @NyabihuDistrict . It was a two-day session full of field experiences and learning. Participants visited model farms of pineapple, passion fruit, and orange-fleshed sweet potatoes — the three value chains supported under the project. They also toured ongoing construction sites for Fruit Collection and Sorting Centers that will soon boost post-harvest handling and market access. The visits created valuable opportunities to meet cooperative members and local leaders. Together, they reflected on progress, shared lessons, and explored innovations transforming local agriculture. The session ended with a joint discussion highlighting project achievements so far, key focus areas for the final year, and sustainability pathways beyond 2026. Step by step, @FXBRwanda continue to strengthen local food systems and empower smallholder farmers in Gakenke and Nyabihu. Stay tuned for more updates from the KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project. #Kungahara #FOSTERINGProject #FoodSecurity

Did you know that a few years ago, passion fruit farming in @NyabihuDistrict had almost disappeared? Many farmers had stopped growing passion fruits, and those who did kept it only for home consumption. Today, through the @EUinRW-funded KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project implemented by @FXBRwanda in partnership with @E4Impact_Rwanda, efforts are underway to restore this valuable crop. Three model farms have already been established, creating hope that passion fruit farming will once again bring meaningful harvests and income to local farmers. Nowadays, new partnerships are forming, and contracts with potential buyers are being signed — showing that passion fruits in Nyabihu are making a strong comeback. Follow @FXBRwanda to stay tuned.

🌱 We can’t fight hunger by producing more if nearly half is lost after harvest. Recognizing this gap, FXB Rwanda & @E4impact_Rwanda , under the 🇪🇺 co-funded #KungaharaFOSTERING project, trained youth representatives from 30 farmer cooperatives in @GakenkeDistrict & @MusanzeDistrict on Post-Harvest Management & Marketing. With expert support from @kilimoEAC & @rikolto, participants gained hands-on skills in: 🔹 Harvesting, sorting & grading 🔹 Storage & transport handling 🔹 Recordkeeping & buyer engagement 📌 Next step: These trainers will replicate sessions at cooperative level — helping farmers cut losses, boost quality & access better markets. 🌾💪🏾 💬 “What farmers grow only matters if it survives the journey from field to market. Losses can be stopped — but only if we act today.” #FoodSecurity #PostHarvest #YouthEmpowerment #Agriculture

Did you know that a few years ago, Orange Fleshed Sweet Potatoes (OFSP) were almost unheard of in some regions? Thanks to successful trials of improved varieties, supported through the EU co-funded KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project, implemented by @FXBRwanda in partnership with @E4Impact_Rwanda, farmers today are reaping big results and transforming their communities. One example is TURWANYUBUKENE Cooperative, one of 30 farmer cooperatives in Gakenke District. This season alone, the cooperative has achieved an impressive 42 tons of Orange Fleshed Sweet Potatoes. Beyond their high yields, OFSP are rich in Vitamin A and other essential nutrients that help fight malnutrition, especially among children and vulnerable households. They also provide a reliable source of income for smallholder farmers, creating new opportunities for employment and strengthening local markets. By diversifying crops and increasing resilience, OFSP are proving to be a game-changer for food security and community development. Follow @FXBRwanda to stay tuned.

Did you know that passion fruits, pineapples, and orange-fleshed sweet potatoes (OFSP) are not only nutritious but also powerful drivers of household income and community resilience? These three crops are at the heart of efforts to build stronger food systems in Rwanda. Since 2023, the EU co-funded KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project, implemented by @FXBRwanda in partnership with @E4Impact_Rwanda, has been working to strengthen food security and promote sustainable food production in Gakenke and Nyabihu districts. By restoring passion fruit cultivation, expanding OFSP farming, and supporting pineapple production, the project is helping farmers improve their livelihoods while ensuring better nutrition for families. Through the project, 30 cooperatives and up to 3,000 farmers are being supported to grow passion fruits, pineapple and sweet potatoes In Gakenke and Nyabihu 6 model farms have been established as learning hubs Pineapple farmers are also using improved techniques to maximize yields and ensure sustainable harvests. By focusing on these three crops, the KUNGAHARA-FOSTERING Project is turning knowledge into action—building nutrition, income, and resilience for farming communities in Rwanda. Follow @FXBRwanda to stay tuned.

🌾 We can’t talk about food security without post-harvest solutions. Up to 40% of food in Africa is lost after harvest. 👉 But what if we could change that right from the grassroots level? In partnership with @E4Impact, @rikolto and @kilimoEAC , we’re designing a practical training module to empower smallholder farmer cooperatives with essential post-harvest management and marketing skills. Tackling post-harvest loss is critical to feeding a growing population sustainably. #FOSTERINGproject #Kungahara
