Christianity was never meant to be "fair." It is meant to be gracious (cf. Matthew 20:1-16).

@shwilson24 Now you're shifting goalposts. "Twisting scripture" is not the same thing as "allegorical interpretation," unless you want to claim that there is no allegory at all in the Bible.

@maklelan Not related to this video, but what literature would you point me to concerning the non-enforcement of the Mosaic laws in the early period of their composition?

A transgender professor at OU, a taxpayer-funded university, gave Samantha Fulnecky a 0/25 not for bad writing, but because her biblical view of gender “offended” the professor. At a public university, this raises serious First Amendment concerns and looks a lot like unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination by a state actor. The assignment invited a personal reaction. It did not forbid religious reasoning. Samantha followed the prompt. The professor’s own comments show the grade turned on her beliefs being “offensive,” not on whether her paper met basic academic standards. If a conservative professor gave a Muslim or transgender student a zero for expressing their convictions, the university would treat it as a civil-rights crisis. The standard must be the same when the student is a Christian. Public universities cannot punish protected speech or religious expression simply because a professor dislikes the viewpoint. @UofOklahoma needs to respond like a serious institution: - Review and correct Samantha’s grade based on neutral academic criteria. - Reaffirm that she will not be penalized for sincerely held religious or moral beliefs. - Ensure professors cannot override assignment guidelines to punish dissent. …Or expect accountability. Students do not lose their rights because a professor is offended.

For a psychology course at the University Oklahoma, Samantha Fulnecky was asked to write a 650-word essay reacting to an article about how people are perceived based on societal expectations of gender. In her essay, Fulnecky argued that traditional gender roles should not be considered stereotypes. She cited the Bible to support her stance that eliminating gender in society would be "detrimental" because that would put people "farther from God's original plan for humans." She received zero points out of 25 on the essay. Transgender professor, Mel Curtis, said Ms. Fulnecky, failed to use empirical evidence/and called parts of her essay offensive. "To call an entire group of people 'demonic' is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population," the instructor wrote in the online grading platform. Fulnecky says she followed the assignment guidelines and should not be penalized for her religious viewpoints. OU officials point to the formal grade-appeal process as the student awaits a decision. We at Turning Point OU stand with Samantha. We should not be letting mentally ill professors around students. Clearly this professor lacks the intellectual maturity to set her own bias aside and take grading seriously. Professors like this are the very reason conservatives can't voice their beliefs in the classroom. Kuddos to Samantha for leading by example and standing up for what she believes in. @UofOklahoma , do better! #universityofoklahoma #trans #woke @ou_president @uofoklahoma @TPUSA @GovStitt @theoudaily @ounightly @SenadorJett @senmullin

The mast majority of young, online-only, Christian self-proclaimed apologists are embarrassingly uneducated. They don't understand hermeneutics, original languages, social-historical background, or any modern scholarly approaches to interpreting the biblical literature...

I think Evangelical Christians need to spend some time reading the minor prophets. Who knows, doing so might cause them to reconsider some of their more problematic takes 🤷‍♂️

@TurningPointOU Both the prof and the TA stated rather explicitly that her grade did not reflect her beliefs per se, but that she did not complete the assignment according to the standards of the rubric. She deserves the grade she was given.

I don't believe that imposing our 21st century expectations for historical literature onto a collection of ANE texts is a good thing. The Hebrew Bible shouldn't be read "literally," whatever that means, but "literarily"...

@iowagolddsm @maklelan On Exod 22:28 Childs says, "The exact means by which the ‘giving’ [נתן] was to be done is not explained, but the same verb is used for both men and animals, which lies at the heart of the problem," (Brevard S. Childs, Exodus OTL, 2004: 479–480, cf. also 194–95).

Ex 22:29-30 is NOT demanding the Israelites execute their children to God, you dolt. "on the eighth day you shall give it to me.” EIGHT days is not by accident. You're right about covenantal law. How did an OT Israelite enter into covenant with God?? They were circumcised. As instructed in Genesis 17:10–11. Now read the next verse. "For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised" Sacrificial animals had to be at least 8 days old to give to God. Kids had to 8 days old to circumcise. God is talking about circumcising the kids to enter into covenant with God, not executing them, you fool. DON'T MURDER KIDS!! “You shall not give your children to Molech.” -Leviticus 18:21 "You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods." - Deuteronomy 12:31 "They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind. - Jeremiah 7:31

@taco_talks @Unitedtilldie00 There are indeed cases (e.g. ectopic pregnancy, some cases of preeclampsia) which necessitate the termination of a pregnancy to preserve the life of the mother, in which C-sections or induced labor simply won't work. See articles by Macoclinic, John Hopkins ;)

@Unitedtilldie00 According to multiple ONGYN’s and even former abortionists, there is never a need to kill the baby to save the mom. C sections were the biggest help with this.

@TurningPointOU She doesn’t have any paragraph breaks, doesn’t cite any sources, doesn’t cite which biblical texts she refers to, and doesn’t even write coherently… And regardless of the topic, she expected a passing grade?

@taco_talks I wouldn't say I'm an open theist, but it does make explaining some of the passages in the Hebrew Bible significantly easier... (cf. Gen 2:19; 3:8–13; 11:5; Exod 32:14)

Open theism is the extreme of Arminianism that goes so far as to create a false god who not only can be wrong, but is constantly wrong. Open theism is blatant heresy.

So pleased to see that our forthcoming book on the "Later New Testament" (Hebrews-Revelation) is available for pre-order. I also love this cover, which my daughter said was "creepy." (I'm taking it as a compliment.) bakeracademic.com/products/97815…

1/ The most common argument American Evangelicals use to rationalize their refusal to love their needy neighbor is: "Sure I believe we should help them, but I don't think the govt should do it, because I don't want my taxes being used that way. Keep it as individual charity."

When Caesar can easily co-opt the language of faith ... it is only because Faith has sat in Caesar's lap for so long. The fruit of Christian Nationalism, in all its forms, is rotten.
