14 years ago I got into coaching. One of the first people I met was John Garris. I was a young NAIA guy, he treated me like I was pro.. and how he treated people is how he is known. The world lost a great man today and I a friend. RIP John. #Rest

Tragic news that former @LATechSB asst coach John Garris has passed away unexpectedly. He coached under @GoCoacher at LA Tech & Maryland. At the time of his death, John was head softball coach at Bay College. John was a true gentleman who cared for his players.

From the first handwritten letter I received from Garris, I knew he was genuine, humble, and full of heart. He always made time and shared wisdom without hesitation. He made the game better and left people better. I’ll miss those letters. Thank you for believing in me ❤️ RIP

It was so sad to hear the news of @CoachJohnGarris. He was awesome when I went to the @TerpsSoftball camp last year. He was so talkative and giving me a bunch of feed back. I am sending prayers to his family and friends! He was a good man and he will be missed tremendously.

John was one of the first coaches I met when I was at Wartburg. We were doing a camp in Cali. Came straight up to me at the airport, shook my hand, and took me under his wing. He always said you’re going to make it. Always gave me a hug when our paths crossed. Fly high Garris ❤️
