Update: It appears you *CAN* still use “manifest version 2” extensions in new versions of Chrome: 1. Go to “chrome://flags”. 2. Search for “MV2”. 3. Disable the “Deprecation Stage” flags, and enable “Allow legacy extension manifest versions”. 4. Close and relaunch Chrome. (1/3)

.@GoogleChrome has started telling people several of my extensions, including @ChromeVoice, are “no longer supported”. **This is extremely misleading—I still support them, and you can still use them!** This is @Google trying to force extension developers' hands: (1/5)

To reiterate: Older Chromebooks won't run “MV3” extensions, so Google is trying to force developers like me to switch to a format that forces folks who use older Chromebooks to buy whole new ones! @Brave, @MicrosoftEdge, @Firefox, @Opera, and others support MV2 *and* MV3. (3/3)

If you recently updated Chrome, you may have found yourself unable to use Voice Actions for Chrome due to Google's “manifest version 3” policy. I am working on an MV3-compatible version. In the meantime, it still works in @Brave, @MicrosoftEdge, @Opera, and others.

Update on this: Google is now disabling the install button in the Chrome Web Store for some people. If that happens to you, you can still install Voice Actions for Chrome; they just make it more of a pain. These are the steps to follow now: (1/8)

I will keep @ChromeVoice and my other extensions on MV2 and test them on older Chromebooks for as long as Google lets me, and when Chrome tries to disable them, you can manually reenable them at chrome://extensions. I hope this thread helps; thank you for understanding! (5/5)

Regardless, it means a lot that enough people donate to cover the cost of keeping these online. My goal with PaintZ (& @ChromeVoice et al.) was always to provide people tools they needed regardless of the cost to me, but that isn't always easy, so I really appreciate the support!

Thank you to the donors who hit this goal so I can at least break even keeping everything online! I would love any further support—app developers need to eat too, and I also hope to be able to get a new test iPhone in the next year or two so I can stop borrowing my friend's 😅

Ko-fi is doing another #KofiChallenge this month to help creators reach their goals. Keeping my projects like PaintZ online and purchasing new test devices is funded by donations so PaintZ can remain ad-free and privacy-conscious. Please consider: ko-fi.com/zmyaro/goal

In case you missed it, last week, I finally finished @ChromeVoice v5.1, which finally adds the top-requested feature: voice activation. I put a ton of work into it, and I am really excited to have it done, out in the world, and (so far) seeing positive reception!
