If you’re at CES, avoid the slot machines at the Las Vegas Airport (LAS). The worst slot odds in the city. Here’s why: Nevada requires a minimum payout of 75% on slots ($0.75 for every $1.00). But most of the devices in Las Vegas casinos will actually do 90%+ payouts to keep people coming back. However, the primary players on the airport slots are tourists coming in and out infrequently. So, these machines stick to closer to the minimum 75% payout rate (the official parlance is RTP aka “return to player”). Then you factor in how many people will throw in a bet just to get one more Vegas dopamine hit or "try to win back some of the losses". Installed in 1986, the airport slot machines have made its owner $1B+ in lifetime revenue. It’s now ~$30m+ a year on self-serve devices…which is a next-level passive income stream (and I’ve definitely got got a few times).
