One student suspect was taken into custody. There is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the campus related to this incident. We commend the students/staff who quickly reported suspicious info, allowing officers to respond swiftly & safely.The investigation remains ongoing.

As a precaution, the school was placed on a secure campus status while officers conducted a search. Within minutes, officers located a firearm concealed under a bush along a fence line between campus buildings. The firearm was recovered safely and taken into evidence.

Today (5/28) at approx 10:50 am, students at Rancho Del Rey Middle School located an unspent 9mm round on campus near the library & immediately notified school staff. School Resource Officers responded & began investigating info that a firearm may have been brought onto campus.
