Japa Stories This happened recently in the UK. A marriage broke down, a career ended, and someone was sent back to Nigeria, all within a short time 💔. They were married in Nigeria before relocating to the UK. Before they travelled, the husband had already warned his wife to stop communicating with her ex(the ex was in Nigeria then). She didn’t take it seriously, and he chose to overlook it. In the UK 🇬🇧 , the wife became the main visa holder as a nurse, sponsored through a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS), while the husband joined as her dependant. For about three years, everything appeared stable. Then one day, the husband came across emails showing repeated train trips to Cardiff. The ex came to UK through study route last year and stays in Cardiff. When he asked, she said she was going to work. But she had actually been travelling to see her ex the same person he had raised concerns about before they left Nigeria. That discovery broke the marriage. Unfortunately, the husband reacted violently and assaulted her. She reported the incident immediately, and the police intervened. In the UK, once a case involves Domestic Violence, it becomes a serious criminal matter. He was restrained from going near her. Because she was his sponsor, she informed the UK Home Office. The husband was then given 60 days to either leave the UK or find a new sponsor. He managed to secure another sponsorship and remained in the country within the two months. At that point, it seemed like the situation had settled. But it hadn’t. The husband reported his wife to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, alleging that her IELTS result was forged. An investigation was launched, and the allegation was confirmed. From there, everything fell apart quickly. Her professional standing was affected, her sponsorship was withdrawn, and her immigration status was cancelled. The UK Home Office required her to leave the UK, and she could not be re-sponsored due to the fraud finding. She has eventually returned to Nigeria now. This situation highlights a few hard realities: submitting fake documents can end your career and immigration journey instantly; dependency in immigration status can leave you vulnerable when relationships break down; and reacting with violence will only make matters worse under UK law. If you’re planning to travel abroad, do it properly. No shortcuts, no fake documents, and no decisions you can’t defend later, my little cents.
