As recorder players we do have to study Handel. But other Baroque composers are available - Telemann, Vivaldi, Bach, Corelli..

@ABRSM Our children do exams, but we tell them they don't have to be technically perfect, and that the result is not a pronouncement on their whole musical identity. Exams are a snapshot of one person on one day. Making music together is an on-going experience which can last a lifetime.

Musical achievement is about how well you can do, how good you can get. That sense of attainment is tested by assessment which gives us intrinsic motivation to make us want to get better. That’s the virtuous circle of motivation.
