Dude is admitting he hasn't played a racing game in 20 years. There have been strict (legally binding) rules regarding car damage in racing games since around 2006 due to car manufacturers not wanting to see their cars destroyed in a game.
Games are allowed to simulate mechanical damage because it implies high-performance limits, but any structural damage is limited to cosmetic effects that have to be easily reset.
