You'll want to BOOKMARK THIS. 10 TIPS FOR HOSTING 𝕏 SPACES 1: TALK It's the HOST'S responsibility to KEEP the conversation GOING. You HAVE to be able to TALK. The absolute WORST thing for listeners to hear is DEAD air. If there's a pause in the conversation, REDIRECT by asking the panel QUESTIONS or by READING comments or questions from the audience from the CHAT BUBBLE (bottom-right corner). 2: PAY ATTENTION & LISTEN To be a GOOD host, you have to be a GOOD LISTENER. AFTER a speaker gets done with their statement or question, briefly RESPOND to it DIRECTLY to fill the conversation transition to the next speaker. This will also keep attention on what was being said, plus people respond well if they know they're being acknowledged. If you're NOT PAYING ATTENTION, your speakers AND audience WILL SEE IT. If they see you not caring, then they won't care either. 3: CO-HOSTS MATTER Having GREAT co-hosts who are either GREAT conversationalists OR are GREAT administrators can ALL of the difference on how GREAT your space can be. If one co-host is good at speaking and the panel isn't talking much, engage with them directly to fall back and keep the conversation going. Having another co-host that's well organized is great because they can ROTATE people up and down on the panel and SEND you questions or comments from the AUDIENCE to read out. Having the RIGHT COMBINATION of hosts can make running a MASSIVE space be like a WELL-OILED machine. Communication is KEY. Creating a temporary group chat for all of the hosts is a GREAT way to keep everyone on the same page. 4: THE PANEL MAKES THE SPACE Having a GOOD panel can make or break your Space. Depending on how SERIOUS you are about your topic, you'll want SERIOUS people on your panel. If you're trying to have an in-depth conversation about a topic but have a bunch of people who are just goofing off the entire time as your speakers, your audience will LOSE interest and leave. The BEST speaker panels are a mixed bunch of diverse talents. A couple of strong personalities mixed in with humorous as well as KNOWLEDGEABLE people is FIRE. There's 10 speaker slots, and keeping at LEAST 6-7 of them occupied, most of the time will broaden the scope of the conversation and likewise broaden the scope of the audience. 5: FACILITATE - DON'T CONTROL As a HOST, it can be TEMPTING to mute people who you find to be disruptive. ONLY mute as a LAST resort when all other attempts to grab a microphone back from someone have failed. As the host, you're in authority. If someone keeps talking over you or ignores your directions on the conversation, warn them a couple of times before you silence them or send them off of the panel. If you develop a reputation as a mute-tyrant, great speakers will avoid coming on to your Spaces. Organic conversations that FLOW on their OWN are the MOST INTERESTING. 6: LEARN TO PIVOT Being DYNAMIC is the sign of a GREAT HOST. A topic can get stretched too far, and the audience will get bored. If there's a new development related to the subject and the speakers offer a change, let them. If you're NOT ready to change off the TOPIC yet, interject and say "we're getting off into the weeds" or something similar, then bring the conversation BACK to a point relative to the topic. 7: BE HONEST Audiences are DRAWN to AUTHENTICITY. If you're being deceptive as a host when speaking, eventually, your speakers and audiences will sense it. People have been lied to for years by the media. They deserve to hear the truth, and if you give it to them, they will respect you for it. Fvck with the truth at your own risk 8: PREPARE Having posts or articles ready to present DURING your space will give you content to discuss. Use the jumbotron to display your content. 9: RESPECT YOUR LISTENERS If your audience KNOWS you care about them, they will be loyal to you. ALWAYS keep them in mind when hosting. 10: HAVE FUN REMEMBER to be ENTERTAINING!
