Middle School Students recently competed in the Science Olympiad, held at Oakton College. Mrs. Bloom, our 8th Grade homeroom teacher and Middle School Science Teacher, organizes the Science Olympiad team each year. #stviatorchicago #scienceolympiad #ChicagoCatholicSchools

Real talk. Real stories. Real leadership. This 2026 WELL Summit panel brings together women who are leading, navigating, and redefining what it looks like to show up and take charge. We are gaining perspective and probably a few “I needed to hear that” moments. #ILWELLSummit

@PrincipalKafele We sure do! We also need black school leaders. Our students of color deserve to see teachers and leaders who look like them.

The message on my shirt is a vital one. We TRULY Need Black Teachers and with an emphasis on Black MEN. Black women comprise only 6 to 7% of America's teachers which is abysmal, but Black men are less than 2% of America's teachers which is quite alarming. But to be clear, the work of a classroom teacher is not for everyone. We need Black teachers who are built for this work or who are willing to put in the work to grow in this business. I left my principalship in 2011. The youngster of 2025 is a different youngster from 14 years ago. The intentionality to grow toward connecting with today's young people must be apparent. But MOST importantly, we need Black teachers who bring an historical / social justice consciousness to the work. I just don't know how effective one can be with Black children when one lacks a historical / social justice foundation relative to the historical and current reality of being Black in America. That is a nondebatable, nonnegotiable aspect of being a Black teacher teaching Black children in America that must always be present, despite the politics of the building and / or the district. And by the way, this isn't theory for me....I lived it. Did I get into trouble from time to time?....YES! But we call that GOOD TROUBLE. But I was also strategic. That's for a future post.

@RobertGodfrey9 Dad, isn’t he a broadcast journalist and a news anchor? Isn’t that his job to cover the biggest news story? 🤔
