talked to 30+ founders this past month. same #1 problem every single time, their homepage fails the 5-second test. a stranger lands on it and has no idea WHAT the company sells, WHO it's for, or WHY they should care. these are seed to series c companies. real revenue, great product. and the homepage still reads like a wall of generic corporate copy written by a committee of 6 people who couldn't agree on positioning. then the founders wonder why the ads don't convert. they don't have a traffic problem, they have a relevance gap. here's where most designers make it worse: "you need a full rebrand." 2 months, $50k+ wasted when you didn't need one. "let's redesign around your existing copy." now you have a prettier version of something that was already broken. both are wrong. what actually has to happen before a single pixel gets designed: 1. lock positioning. who it's for, who it isn't. 2. decide what lives on the homepage vs the product page vs pricing. 3. write the page architecture. every section's job, and the order a stranger reads them in. that's the unsexy work no one puts in a case study, it's also the work that decides whether the site converts. then you design and then you build. your homepage is your first sales call, if it can't do its job in 5 seconds, nothing downstream matters.

Look at every element on your page. Ask one question: "Does this help a qualified visitor take the next step?" No → cut it. Maybe → cut it. Yes → keep it. Most AI SaaS pages would lose 40% of their content and convert 2x better.
