After Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination in 1948, anger turned into mob violence. In parts of Maharashtra, innocent Brahmins especially Chitpavan Brahmin families were attacked, homes were burned, and livelihoods destroyed.
People who had nothing to do with the crime were targeted simply because of their identity. Fear spread. Many families were forced to flee and migrate to survive.

Jammu is not Kashmir. There is a lot of difference
Jammu took bullets from Sheikh Abdullah’s forces for the Tricolour 🇮🇳, while the Tricolour continued to be burned in Kashmir until 5 August 2019.
Terrorism and the separatist movement in Kashmir are the reasons for this divide.
The blame lies with Sheikh Abdullah and his associates, who radicalised large sections of Kashmiri society.
You are the product of a movement that began in 1931 and never truly ended, despite power being taken away from Jammu with the help of Nehru.
Perhaps your memory is ephemeral. Do not forget the National Emblem being broken with stones. #JammuPradesh
