Which pedestrianised areas of Belfast would YOU like to see opened to car traffic? (A question on no-one's lips) bikefast.org/2016/12/16/ped…

Should more of Belfast city centre be a car-free zone❓🚘❌ Not just for the Fleadh. Councillor @DonalLyons thinks so. 📢

Worth remembering: the consultation exists for the very reason people are raising concerns. If you have issues with access, now is the time to shape the plan. Other cities use mobility shuttles for those with disabilities (like Ljubljana). Could something like this be trialled? There are solutions.

People in Belfast have three weeks to have their say on plans to close city centre roads for a week to accommodate the All-Ireland Fleadh. The City Council says it expects eight hundred thousand visitors and road-closures are needed for safety reasons. Mark Simpson reports.

@CircleLineBT Why conflate inconvenience with the end of the world? Have you a rebuttal or not? I’m done here if not.👋

For one week during the Fleadh, Belfast will pedestrianise the streets around City Hall. That gives us something rare - a chance to see what the city could feel like if space was designed for people, not traffic. These images show that potential 👇 If it works in August, it can work year-round.

@meisterishbot People walking slightly further with an umbrella. It is indeed the end of the World. Those with mobility issues should be catered for with blue badge parking provision like always, but better still would be that the consultation identifies these issues before cementing the plan.

@CircleLineBT Nosebleed rates from a Marxist dominated council and you think pedestrianisation is the panacea to any city's ills?

@CircleLineBT The fact normal public transport systems will be moved, street and road layouts changed for events and potential drop off points and routes changed, for starters. Seriously, if you’re going to advocate for public transport changes yourself maybe find out more about accessibility

I would of thought removing the threat posed by moving vehicles would be a good thing for all concerned. I don't think anyone would want to see the return of cars to Ann Street. But you are right, for those with mobility issues, there needs to be clarity on access to current parking spots.

Is that it?! When I heard there was grumbling and pearl clutching about pedestrianising streets for a massive event I wondered what all the fuss was about and now I can see it’s only city hall to the art college I have two words for the grumblers whoever they are. WISE UP.
