Did you know the City of Burnside maintains the public infrastructure you see on our local streets? This includes bus stops, benches, bins, bollards and bike rails! As the months and years go by, these assets can degrade from weather exposure and frequent use. One of our bus stops in Grant Avenue, Rose Park was recently in need of some TLC, and our team got to work to give it a new coat of paint and a new roof! This forms just a very small part of what we do everyday to repair and replace aging assets, ensuring our public infrastructure is fit for purpose. In fact, the City of Burnside website has a free interactive map that you can access to see what infrastructure works are happening in your neighbourhood. You can search by: 📍 Suburb ⚙️ Type of works ✅ In progress/Completed 🛠️ Plus more! View our Capital Works Projects map now at bit.ly/BurnsideCapita…

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.

Yesterday afternoon we threw one of the biggest parties ever held in Burnside, with our beloved Regal Theatre turning 100! 🎉 It was our great pleasure to host such a momentous occasion, and we would like to thank everyone who attended including Andrea Michaels MP, Claire Clutterham MP, Jack Batty MP, Cressida O'Hanlon MP and representatives from the Wallis and Waterman families, as well as Councillors Peter Cornish, Jane Davey, Mike Daws, Lilian Henschke, Harvey Jones and Jenny Turnbull. Of course, this massive party couldn't have happened without you, our wonderful community! Thank you all so much for celebrating with us. While we reflect on 100 years of The Regal Theatre, we also look ahead to its future as a thriving cultural landmark for generations to come. In 2024, we secured $2.43m in grant funding for the redevelopment of the Regal Theatre precinct from the Federal Government's Thriving Suburbs Program. The redevelopment project will rejuvenate the heritage-listed theatre and surrounding precinct, increasing accessible outdoor open spaces, tree plantings and landscapes, to accommodate a greater range of performances, patron experiences and retail, café and outdoor dining opportunities. Now we are actively seeking funding from the State Government to ensure the successful delivery of this project and support the Regal to become one of South Australia's premier arts venues. Re-live all the action from Sunday afternoon at burnside.sa.gov.au/Community-Recr…

Earlier this year one of our biodiversity volunteers, Christine Baillie, received an Honourable Mention in the 2025 National Awards for Local Government in the Women in Local Government category. It was our great joy to recently present Christine with her Honourable Mention, which was accepted on Christine's behalf by Mayor Anne Monceaux at the awards ceremony in Canberra. Christine has championed biodiversity in Burnside for over 25 years, volunteering her time and expertise to help restore and protect native vegetation as a key member of the Karra Tartu (Waterfall Gully) bush regeneration team. Her commitment is an example of how women continue to lead and inspire across all areas of local government. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank each and every one of our volunteers at the City of Burnside, with over 350 individuals donating over 25,000 hours to our community each year. Your efforts have a profound impact and we cannot thank you enough for everything you do. Read the full story at engage.burnside.sa.gov.au/FOCUSOnBurnsid…

Last week we celebrated our 100th Kids Club and what an EPIC morning of fun that was! We were in absolute awe to see so many beautiful families show up in their hundreds to get involved and celebrate with us 🥳 From bouncy musical tunes by the Amazing Drumming Monkeys and face painting, arts and crafts by Dizzy Izzy and interactive animal opportunities with Animals Anonymous, there was something for everyone to enjoy! Our community is at the heart of everything we do at the City of Burnside and it was so heartwarming to see so many happy parents, carers and little ones getting involved and enjoying the festivities together. Thank you to everyone who showed up on the day and made this celebration such a success. Of course, the fun doesn't end here - Kids Club runs on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Glenunga Hub and we would love to see you again at future events. On Saturday afternoon it was our delight to host a Discover Diwali celebration event at Burnside Library, in collaboration with the Brahmin Association of South Australia. This year Diwali will be observed on Monday 20 October, with the annual festival taking place on the darkest night of the Hindu lunar calendar. Diwali symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. To represent this victory people create displays of light, such as through lighting candles 🕯️ In celebration, our Discover Diwali event invited attendees to learn more about Diwali's origins and its significance around the world, try some traditional foods, and craft their own decorations. Thank you to everyone who got involved!

If you've walked past Webb Street Reserve recently or perhaps dropped the kids off at the neighbouring preschool, you may have noticed there's quite a bit of activity going on! ⛏️👷 That's because we are currently undergoing works to completely rejuvenate the playground space with some amazing new features, including brand-new play equipment (including a trampoline and waterplay), nature play features, a butterfly garden, non-verbal communication signage and more. There may not be much to see yet, but there are plenty of great things to come! These works have been designed in consultation with the community, local Scouts group and adjacent preschool, and we're excited to unveil this new invigorated space later this year. Keep an eye on our socials for more updates!

Check out this throwback to 1975 of the first ever Home Library Service van! 🚐 For half a century, this crucial service has ensured that Burnside residents who may not be able to visit Burnside Library can continue to access books, magazines and other library materials in their own homes. The Home Library Service has changed a lot throughout the years (including a new van, of course), but the principle has always remained the same - providing vital connection for our Burnside community. The service is more than just books; it's a friendly face on delivery days, a lighthearted chat about the latest read, and a lifeline to learning and community. Happy 50th birthday Home Library Service 🎉 If you or a loved one would be interested in signing up for the Home Library Service, contact our friendly Burnside Library team on 8366 4280 or apply online at burnside.sa.gov.au/Community-Recr…

In 2022 we established a rock swap shelf in Tusmore Park, which came to life as a result of a successful Your Neighbourhood Budget project submitted by local sisters Amber and Penny. The rock swap shelf is all about giving local kids (and grown-ups!) a creative outlet and something fun to share with their peers. We recently noticed that our rock swap shelf was looking a little quiet, and so some of our friendly staff at the City of Burnside got to work! It wasn't long before the team had some glamourous designs (ft. Peppa Pig and a classic Sherrin footy) ready to go, with some cute rocks now back in stock on the shelf. Want to get involved? We encourage residents of all ages to come up with their own beautiful designs and share them with the community at the rock swap shelf. Open 24/7 including public holidays 😎
