Valid point about the upward shift from 55-ish to 75-ish in terms of being a good PP score. Maybe as Narine is declining, the number of swings and misses and lack of running between the wickets is also a bigger issue. Reckon with the right partner and role clarity, a player like him partnered with Allen/Rahane could still be worth it. And tbf, don't recall too many premium bowlers showing that kind of clean hitting recently. Maybe Tushar Deshpande the other night.

If Sunil Narine could work as an opener, why has no captain or leadership group ever tried it with Rashid Khan and Pat Cummins in T20s? Are there legit cricketing reasons? Or is it mostly a case of people not being able to come around to something beyond their thought horizons?

I really don’t understand this our openers gave a good start but middle order failed miserably moreover tripathi in form batsman got injured. 100 off 10 with 10 wickets in hands. 9/10 times batting side would win despite openers getting out in no time. Still these people are behind gill from last 5 years. No wonder we are doing this bad from last 10 years because neither our management nor our fans respect our players. They still celebrate morgan, rana , shakib etc when these 3 got out cheaply, morgan batted like a tailender throughout the tournament. Never seen rana performing in knockouts. 2018,2021 same story. And shakib over any fast bowler in that match why?

Tbvh nowadays Playplay batting demands 60-80 8 times out of 10. Narine used to provide these starts in his prime during 2017-18 and then in 2024 as well and it worked because at that time 50+ runs powerplay was considered v good but now different skillset is req. which is less dot balls which isn’t surety with these players. I think there is still room for a tactical pinch hitter in this format like MI did in 2016 in a match against KKR, they sent mcclenaghan after 1st or 2nd wicket to counter spin and give momentum and he scored 21 off 7 and MI comfortably won the match with more than 4 balls spare.

@Ck2498 Thanks for that! Reasonable argument. Although I still think teams should give it a shot for at least 5-6 games in a row to ascertain the odds of success. Maybe often times it's the players themselves who don't see themselves that way or aren't too keen.

I am going to be dragged for this but MSD was a very conservative T20 skipper and his methods held back Indian T20i. His success with CSK was because of the squad they built.

In IPL 2026 the biggest disappointment for KKR has been Rinku Singh‼️ He has been given exactly the role he wanted and he’s had multiple match situations where he was expected to finish games. But his performances in almost every innings have been under scrutiny. As a retained player who has now become one of the senior members of the team there were huge expectations from the entire fanbase... but he has failed to prove himself. If you remove the name “Rinku Singh” and judge him purely on performance he wouldn’t even deserve a spot in the playing XI and questions would also be raised about his retention. If you’re being paid ₹13 cr (deduction of ₹18 cr) and fail to deliver even a single impactful performance across two seasons then questions are bound to be asked and you need to take responsibility yourself. In these two seasons there hasn’t been a single match where Rinku Singh has taken a difficult situation and turned it into a close contest through his batting. #IPL2026

72 in powerplay and restricting them to a total of 192 is a good comeback💜🔥 Credit where it's due. I would say the bowling rotation was pretty good. However why was Vaibhav given that 19th over? My heart was literally racing at that point. We got lucky that he conceded only 9 runs but don't let that fool you from the fact that he conceded 55 runs in 4 overs. Brilliant job spinners & Karthik Tyagi💜 Green's first over was good. 2nd over he got beaten up. Overall looked like a good bowling unit💪💜
