Because this matter concerns the Prophet ﷺ, every detail is important to clarify. If anyone speaks even the slightest falsehood regarding his ﷺ greatness and perfection, it is the obligation of Ahl al-Sunnah to respond and defend the truth.

A prominent ghayr-muqallid deviant claims that four of the Prophet’s ﷺ teeth were martyred during the Battle of Uḥud. This is not true at all, and there is absolutely no basis for such a claim in the aḥādīth or the books of sīrah. There was no change whatsoever in the beauty of the Prophet ﷺ after this incident. However, some Islamophobes, and even certain Muslims, repeat these false claims, so it is important to know the correct response. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said: “Do not tell a lie against me, for whoever tells a lie against me will surely enter the Hellfire.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 106]

Allāh says: “Command the Muslim men to lower their gaze and protect their concealed parts. This is purer for them, Allāh is aware of their deeds.” [Sūrah an-Nūr, 24:30] Guarding the eyes is from the purity of the heart. And the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “The adultery of the two eyes is the lustful gaze.” [Al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr lil-Ṭabarānī, 18/8]

The beauty of a believer’s home is not in wealth or status, but in a family united upon obedience to Allāh and His Rasūl ﷺ. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “May Allāh have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays, then he wakes his wife and she prays, and if she refuses he sprinkles water in her face. And may Allāh have mercy on a woman who gets up at night and prays, then she wakes her husband and prays, and if he refuses she sprinkles water in his face.” [Sunan an-Nasāʾī, 1610]

“And most certainly you are upon a very great character.” [Sūrah al-Qalam, verse 4] If sins, whether major or minor, were to proceed from the Prophet ﷺ, then describing him as being upon “a ʿaẓīm (great and exalted) character” would not be valid in an absolute and unrestricted sense. The word “ʿaẓīm” (great/magnificent) indicates the highest level of perfection and completeness in character. This encompasses all aspects of moral conduct, both in performing what is wājib (obligatory) and in avoiding what is muḥarram (prohibited). However, committing sins contradicts perfection in character. Rather, it entails a naqṣ (deficiency), even if slight. And it is not befitting that Allāh, the All-Wise, would describe His Messenger ﷺ with an unrestricted, absolute praise of “great character” while he possesses actions that contradict that waṣf (description). He created him with the most honorable traits, beautiful manners, a pure inner nature, and all qualities of goodness. He also kept him far removed from everything that would diminish his worth or lower his rank. He ﷺ is free from all misguidance and error. It was part of Allāh’s protection and preservation of him that He safeguarded him from the impurities of the pre-Islamic era (Jāhiliyyah) even before his mission and before revelation came to him. Thus, he is protected from everything that would lessen his dignity or detract from his person. Perfection , ﷺ.

Imām al-Dhahabī: “Before the legislation, he was certainly protected from fornication, from treachery, from lying, from intoxication, from prostrating to an idol, from divination by arrows, from vices, from foolishness, from foul speech, and from exposing his nakedness. Thus, he did not circumambulate naked, nor did he stand on the Day of ʿArafah with his people at Muzdalifah; rather, he stood at ʿArafah. In any case, if something of that had appeared from him, there would have been no blame upon him, because he would not have known; however, the rank of perfection rejects the occurrence of such things from him ﷺ.” [Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ, 1/130–131] Imām al-Qurṭubī states: “The majority of the jurists among the followers of Mālik, Abū Ḥanīfah, and al-Shāfiʿī held that the prophets are protected from all minor sins just as they are protected from all major sins. This is because we have been commanded to follow them in their actions, their traditions, and their way of life in an absolute manner, without any qualifying If we were to allow the possibility of minor sins for them, then it would not be possible to take them as examples to follow, since not every action of theirs can be clearly distinguished as to whether its intent was an act of devotion, something permissible, something prohibited, or a sin. It is not sound to command a person to follow an action that may possibly be a sin especially according to those legal theorists who hold that actions take precedence over statements when the two appear to conflict. For some young people, marriage is a sunnah muʾakkadah, for others it is farḍ, for others wājib, for others makrūh, and for some even ḥarām. When one looks at the society around us, where young people are generally able to find work and maintain a reasonable financial situation, many of them fall into the category of wājib or even farḍ, due to how widespread zināʾ of the eyes and hands has become among them. This is a very serious matter. So bad that we once heard a kāfir mention to us that he has been with many “Ḥijābīs.” The only guess we have is that these kuffār will keep it secret and cover for these girls, which is not guaranteed with a Muslim boy, as many are without ḥayāʾ and engage in such actions without any shame and share the info with others. Being with a non-Muslim it is “risk-free”. Allāh is Watching.

The Noble Prophet ﷺ said: “O young men, whoever among you is able to marry should do so, for it helps lower the gaze and guard chastity. And whoever is not able to marry should fast, for fasting will be a restraint for him.” [Sunan an-Nasāʾī 3209]

“Our people are so ‘innocent’: they know where to find the finest bread, the best rice, the most skilled tailors, and the finest shoes. Yet when it comes to religion, they do not know whom to ask (or seek knowledge from). They would never entrust their clothes to just any tailor, yet they are willing to take their religion from anyone who speaks about Islām. ‘But they also teach Islām,’ they say, so why then do you still choose the same tailor over just any other? There is something hidden within this contradiction.” Perennialism is extremely dangerous.

Often, a person falls into a quiet kind of despair, because they feel unworthy of turning back to Him. They think, “I have done too much wrong… how can I even ask? Why the need to pray, when I do this x and y sin…” This quote reminds you that feeling distant from Allah is not caused by your sins alone, but by letting those sins convince you to stop calling upon Him. In reality, the door of duʿāʾ is never closed. Your weakness, your regret, even your brokenness, these are not obstacles; they are reasons to turn back. The Prophet ﷺ in al-Ḥadīth al-Qudsī: “Allāh Blessed and Most High, said: ‘O son of Ādam! Verily as long as you called upon Me and hoped in Me, I forgave you, despite whatever may have occurred from you, and I did not mind. O son of Ādam! Were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you, and I would not mind. So son of Ādam! If you came to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as it.’” [Jāmiʿ at-Tirmidhī, 3540]
