The medical evidence is clear. Nurseries should be open to vulnerable/keyworker children only. Government threatening nurseries & other EY settings with financial penalties if they implement this key safety measure is dangerously irresponsible and risks lives. #MakeEarlyYearsSafe

Professor Susan Michie of Sage points to nurseries being fully open as a big problem with the current lockdown. Deaths yesterday were more than one a minute. Cases over 45,000. We need to get social interactions down. Nurseries should be key worker and vulnerable only.

This is what we think needs to happen in Early Years. 1. Early years open for Key Worker and Vulnerable children only: to get cases down. 2. No financial loss for Early Years settings: we will need them coming out of lockdown 3. Furlough for parents who have to stay home.

Very concerning to hear @BorisJohnson say that early years settings are currently open to help provide childcare for key workers in the briefing this evening. Early years providers are currently open to ALL children under his government’s latest lockdown guidance.

@EYAlliance @BorisJohnson I have children who attend my setting who's parents are not key workers and are stay at home parents. I also have some parents who have decided not to send their children into the setting (3) and we understand government funding will be withdrawn for these. We deserve better

@EYAlliance @BorisJohnson Nurseries should only be open to vulnerable & key worker children in order to protect everyone & limit ANY possible transmission, if you can keep your child at home PLEASE do. Many child practitioners have children of their own who now have no choice but to attend school
