@TechPowerUp With current DDR5 prices, don't bother. You and ASUS can close the shop for the next year at least.

@StartupArchive_ Carmack dropping truth bombs. AGI might be tens of thousands of lines, not millions. One brilliant mind + GPUs + data = human-level AI possible. Not impossible, just high-leverage. ⚡🧠💻

John Carmack: The code for AGI could conceivably be written by one individual After stepping down as CTO of Meta’s Oculus VR, legendary programmer John Carmack was trying to decide if he would work on nuclear fission or artificial general intelligence (AGI). He ultimately chose AGI. “I think [fission] is possible,” John says. “Somebody should be doing this, but it’s going to involve some politics, decent-sized teams, and a bunch of cross-functional stuff that I don’t love. While artificial general intelligence seems to me like the highest-leverage moment for a single individual potentially in the history of the world.” He explains: “With the things we know about the brain and what we can do with artificial intelligence . . . I’m not a madman for saying that it is likely that the code for artificial general intelligence is going to be tens of thousands of lines of code — not millions of lines of code.” He continues: “This is code that conceivably one individual could write, unlike writing a new web browser or operating system. And based on the progress that machine learning has made in the recent decade, it’s likely that the important things that we don’t know are relatively simple. There’s probably a handful of things — my bet is there’s less than six key insights — that need to be made. Each one of them can probably be written on the back of an envelope. We don’t know what they are, but when they’re put together in concert with GPUs at scale and the data that we all have access to, we can make something that behaves like a human being or living creature and that can then be educated in whatever ways we need to get to the point where we can have universal remote workers where anything that somebody does mediated by a computer, that doesn’t require physical interaction, an AGI will be able to do.” Carmack does not think this will be “unapproachably hard”: “That’s incredibly hubristic to say, but what I said a couple of years ago was that there’s a 50% chance that somewhere there will be signs of life of an AGI in 2030, and I’ve probably increased that slightly — maybe 55-60% now because I do think there’s a little sense of acceleration.” Video source: @lexfridman (2022)

Incredible news! Private donors pledge $1 billion for the construction of the Future Circular Collider This is a huge deal! It has the potential to usher in a new era in fundamental physics uk.news.yahoo.com/private-donors…

@Russell_MFG_USA I understand defensive war - one that is being fought on one's own land for his freedom. Everything else is everything else. And modern wars for "democracy" are nothing more than a Safari.

@Clark24_Bennet We are ensuring the west has ammunition enough to deter conflict. Best war is one you don’t fight. Countries only go to war when they are uncertain of the outcome If people are certain that western nations have the conviction materials and means to fight - no one will.

@_streetdogg Bad idea. Kids and FPGAs don't mix. FPGAs are LEGOs for unmatured grown-ups of the "The Big Bang Theory/Comicon" type. Why push those on kids ? Leave them to their real LEGOs FFS.

Why is Soan Papdi FPGA board Special? Yes. There are several FPGAs out there. I however, did not find any of them suitable for teaching Digital Design to Kids (age 5 and up). Boards either have too many features, Peripherals, or have a very complicated development flow. None of which is appealing to anyone wanting to test the waters of Digital Design. The Design of Soan Papdi is very deliberate! + There are 8 LEDs can be used to convey 8 Bit Data. + The 8 switches can be group into two groups of 4 bits. + There are 4 Status LEDs. + And 10 General Purpose I/O pins. Obviously, The LEDs, Switches and Status LED are hooked to GPIOs. We just chose to use them in a specific manner. The Switches and LEDs can be used in simple circuits like the Gates, Mux/Demux, Adders, Counters etc These primitive digital circuits pave the way for complicated sequential circuits enabling state machine design. State-Machine design can evolve into Single Cycle CPU design :D Further, Soan Papdi is based on iCE40UP5K FPGA which has enough Logical Unit to deploy a RISC-V CPU (rv32i). To the point the peripherals can be hand picked. The address map can be configured as needed. The Firmware can be written in ASM/C and uploaded to the memory... You get the flow? This cute looking board starts off as a toy you fiddle with but doesn't limit what you can do with it. From being a starting point for Digital Design to being able to deploy complicated state machines (like the rv32i core) - it handles it all! A humble/polite beast! You can learn everything from Hardware Design to Firmware Development using just one piece of hardware! How cool is that?? But!! It doesn't end here :D The development is based on open source tools that work on - Linux, Windows and Mac. There is a flourishing open source community and documentation that smoothens the learning. From a GUI based tool to the power off command-line. Everything; Covered! To not miss the updates about this board, be on the mailing list - sendfox.com/lp/1k4rwj I will start to record a course using this board. It will be available to the subscribers of the Library Access: pyjamabrah.com/library

And it turns out my eevblog email server hasn't been importing for the last 3 days and I didn't notice. I got two phone calls today asking why I hadn't responded to emails, once said they were having email issues their end so I didn't think about it.

Is there a name for when you can't log into your email server because you need the password from your password manager, but the password manager is asking for email verification using said server before you can log into it...

Solid-state coin cell battery for industrial IoT devices. cnx-software.com/2025/12/17/max… @MaxellCorp PSB2032 has a 35mAh capacity that's much lower than a typical CR2032 battery (220-240mAh), but it's rechargeable, can operate in a wider temperature range, and offers better safety with no leakage or thermal runaway.
