That drove costs up and now makes up a huge portion of federal spending/debt. It’s not “expiring,” but it is heading toward a shortfall around 2033, which means benefits could get cut if nothing changes. That puts younger generations at risk of having less of a safety net. At the same time, they pushed policies like offshoring that gutted manufacturing and helped stall wages. There’s a lot more to it, but that’s the reality.
