@ShitlibSupreme Strategic Ambiguity is the current, non-hawk, official government position. An explicit pro-Taiwan position makes both a conflict and the annexation of Taiwan far more likely. What in here suggests more than just "Stick to Ambiguity"?

Obviously he isn't going to outright say it, but with even the slightest amount of reading between the lines that's clearly the takeaway from this statement. That the U.S should do nothing if Taiwan is attacked.

@ShitlibSupreme Lol before I even touch that one is there a clip where he says that? And I mean explicitly that and not some watered down version that you have to use your Lib powers to divinate his meaning. Our online banter is cute but the hyperbolic bullshit is getting tiresome.

@urprobablydumb @PiscoLitty @sleepy_devo That's fine, but the main reason you won't is because Hutch did actually waste most of the episode chasing this pretty pointlessly (and inaccurately to boot). I thought you wanted to hold Taylor Lorenz accountable?

Interesting vid by @sleepy_devo in which he 100% agrees with me that there are multiple plausible definitions of “centrist” and Democrats have been accurately labeled centrist. He additionally advocates that Democrats should embrace the term—I’m unsure of that but check it out!

@PiscoLitty @sleepy_devo Congrats Pisco. You turned an opportunity to hold Taylor accountable into a week long semantics battle. You really know how to deflect.

@PiscoLitty You know all of their crash outs are completely bad faith because if they really had serious issues w the story they’d be taking it up with WIRED and the editors there, but instead they’ve spent nearly 2 years making up fake nonsense to try to attack me personally.

Not a centrist. Just a self-described moderate Democrat who is "pretty center, center/left" and would be considered "moderate moderate" in a blue state.

@PiscoLitty What aim was Hutch trying to achieve by biting down so hard on this point? Based on the fallout from this, is it something he would repeat in future with another guest he dislikes?

@AviBittMD Of course. That was my point — if there’s a plausible sense in which Olivia was a centrist in context (there was—Taylor was doing a piece on Democratic influencers following the “party line”), better to focus on the negative subjective intent of Taylor than the literal truth.

@Roogdoog1 I'd quibble on Cruz vs someone like Romney in Trump 1, but basically yeah. As to why, its an offhand characterisation of Juliana, being listed as one of few disclosed Chorus members. It was written that way for concision.

@ClarkeySG So you're saying Taylor was saying, "she's more of a centrist than a lefty is"? That's an odd way of saying that. Why not just say, "she's a center left moderate". To me that's like Nick Fuentes saying, "Ted Cruz is a centrist, because he's closer to the middle than me."

Further to our conversation from Lib and Learn, this is a clip of Olivia Julianna from July 2025 describing herself as a "moderate democrat."

@Roogdoog1 The lefty perspective would be that a moderate Dem (influencer or politician) is pulling the party+policy further towards the centre, which is against their preference. I understand the "Both sides have good points" concept of centrist, but that's not what Lorenz is saying

@ClarkeySG There has to be though? I don't understand how you could be a centrist who would only ever vote blue, who would say they, "would never vote Republican". That makes no sense, that's a left wing person. Anyways agree to disagree.

@Roogdoog1 Again, even this is more than Hutch allowed. Going further than Hutch let the conversation go - I'd argue centrist is a subjective term and there is no "Fact of the matter" here. Lefties call moderates Centrists. Nazi and Tankie similar terms with used meanings beyond dict.def

@ClarkeySG @0liviajulianna @PiscoLitty Taylor could incorrectly believe that Olivia was a centrist but there's still a fact of the matter, and I don't see how anyone could characterize Olivia as centrist, I'm sorry. Centrists are a toss up on who they'd vote for, I can't see anything that would give that impression.

@Roogdoog1 @0liviajulianna @PiscoLitty Even above you yourself offer an out though, which Hutch refuses to. Lorenz is lying *or* far-left. There is some reality where Lorenz sincerely believes it's fair to call her a centrist. Hutch's aim is to discredit Lorenz, we already know she's a lefty, so he hangs on "lie"

@ClarkeySG @0liviajulianna @PiscoLitty No I wouldn't say that, but it's clear that describing a moderate Democrat as a "centrist" is attempting to malign that person. It calls into question the intention of mislabeling someone like that. I called myself a centrist at one point, Olivia is definitely not a centrist.

@ClarkeySG @0liviajulianna @PiscoLitty They couldn't have continued the conversation without ironing out that point. It's either bad faith or a political world view so skewed that she really does see anyone right of Mao as centrist.

@Roogdoog1 @0liviajulianna @PiscoLitty That might be an interesting discussion to have. Unfortunately, Hutch ground the show to a halt on "Admit describing Juliana as a centrist was a biases lie or you're bad faith" so that either way there was thought-terminator to totally dismiss Lorenz as, so no time for that.

@0liviajulianna @PiscoLitty Referencing your participation in Chorus in her article, Taylor Lorenz refers to you as "Olivia Julianna, the centrist Gen Z influencer who spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention". Do you find this an unfair characterisation in this context?

Being moderate means being center of the left, not a centrist… a centrist is someone who is literally in the center. I am not. I would never vote for a republican. I have voted in primaries for DSA endorsed candidates, and for center-left candidates. Unlike hyper online weirdos- I actually like voting for people who care about doing their job and can win and don’t have a rigid immovable idelogy.
