I haven't checked this account in 4 months. Busy w/ 3 kids, wife, town council, coaching little league, Scouts, tutoring, teaching, & more. I'm relieved to see everyone is still behaving exactly the same, harping on the same ideas, beating the same dead horses. Carry on.

@FrancheskaG_76 @teachergrind The result of learning is power. If students are learning valuable content and skills, then why does pedagogy matter? I'm all for intrinsic motivation & lofty ideals, but if, in the end, Ss' lives are better for what they've learned, then do a few Starbursts really matter?

@ClassCastPod @teachergrind You’re misunderstanding. The appropriate incentives are supposed to be intrinsic rewards. Yes, help them be proud of their work. But learning isn’t about churning out product, so why th are we treating it that way?

Coincidence? The college with the highest percentage of former homeschoolers (over 90%) also has the highest average LSAT. It is true, Patrick Henry College students beat Harvard and Princeton students on the LSAT.

@unprocast I DEMAND STANDARDIZATION. But also differentiation and individualized instruction. I DEMAND STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS. But also avoid sharing personal information, biases, preferences, and anything that could possibly be interpreted as political or values-based.

Life is bribery. There are incentives (& disincentives) in everything we do. You change how you interact w/ Ss, they receive grades, etc. If candy isn't your thing, cool. But if another T uses candy & kids actually learn, who cares? Are we about learning or moral stands on candy?
