When Auterra breaks the carbon to carbon connections in order to make the oil flow, it does not cap the carbon. Carbon always needs 4 connections. When you break the carbon to carbon connection, now you created 2 carbons that are missing 4th connections. They will react randomly and form various molecules. Aduro caps this by donating hydrogen immediately after the cut. Auterra doesn’t. Auterra removes the damaged oil. This results in lower yield that might offset any gains from not needing diluent. In the pilot, the numbers might look good, but a few hours or days later, the uncapped carbons will create problems. By the time the product reaches the refinery, it might be really bad. The refinery is unlikely to buy such damaged and inconsistent product because it will damage their expensive equipment. The scaling will not work. There is another company called PlasCred that also claims that it can do what Aduro does, but it is impossible. If you do not cap the broken carbon, the carbon will react making unwanted and inconsistent product. Refinery, in case of oil, and steam cracker is case of plastic, will not buy such risky product.
