As weird as it seems, I Love Boosters was like the inverse of Devil Wears Prada 2. Two interpretations of the same paradigm viewed from opposing frameworks. Funny how ILB is much more realistic and hopeful despite the surreality while DWP2 was nihilistic in its ending. Stay woke.

Showing how transnational alliances between oppressed workers leads to global class consciousness and general strikes worldwide was brilliant and Boots Riley and the cast somehow made it all hilarious. Definitely a gem.

Didn’t expect lines about dialectical materialism in a boosters movie but there’s Marxist theory throughout w/ boosting shown as Robin Hood-type praxis and even what seemed like a depiction of a rarely discussed theory created by Dr. Huey Newton called Intercommunalism. So dope.

Still thinking about I Love Boosters and how Boots Riley made a protest film so smart and funny you don’t even realize how deep it was until thinking it over more on the way home. It was so good my theater applauded as the credits rolled.

Once they lost Woodland on Flatbush to “noise complaints” aka gentrification, so went Sugarcane, Bleachers, Soco, Milkriver, Basquiat’s Bottle, Imani’s (reopened as Mango Bay), Negril Brooklyn, Ode to Babel, Bed-Vyne Brew, Tilly’s, Amarachi, Bunton’s World Famous, & so many more.

I Love Boosters was incredible. Timely and timeless message about worker solidarity. Hilarious too.

Been listening to the Boy since college and what you realize is that while he is undoubtedly talented, he’s not really artistic or particularly creative. He can ape styles in a convincing way but there’s rarely innovation, just karaoke.

These album takes have been making me laugh since yesterday. 43 tracks of reggie is egregious though.
