Fyi, Claude isn’t some random mascot CT made up last year. $Claude is the only animal @AnthropicAI has ever publicly acknowledged as a mascot and part of their company culture. Employees had white alligator plush toys on their desks. The 🐊 emoji was used in Slack to represent Claude. People even followed the live “Claude Cam” from the California Academy of Sciences, which @AnthropicAI officially sponsored along with Claude’s museum enclosure. $Claude passed away in December 2025. But his legacy lives on. The city of San Francisco (where @AnthropicAI is headquartered) renamed a street in Golden Gate Park in his honor: Claude the Alligator Way. With @AnthropicAI leading the frontier of AI and the name #Claude #claudecode #claudeai becoming known everywhere, it only feels right that this piece of the story lives on too. Claude the alligator was a much-beloved resident of @calacademy and our unofficial mascot. He captured our hearts—along with the rest of San Francisco’s. We were honored to play a small part in caring for him.
