@Clavdivs1

North-Westerner and winging-it father washed up in SE18. Generally spend my time tweeting politics, local grumblings and bitching about trains. Enjoy.

Problem with the X algorithm is that you pause on one tweet and thats all you see for the rest of the day - wall to wall accounts now that normally hate the rich getting anything insisting that anyone arguing we shouldn't be subsidising the wealthy want children to starve.

To nobody's shock Khan's report classes "disinformation" incredibly widely. Not sure claims of two tier policing are a misleading narrative in any way shape or form. What would be more accurate is "Narratives I don't agree with"

This is the huge problem - who gets to decide that saying London is dangerous is "disinformation"? I'm sure it comes from a good place but these people just do not think about how to actually achieve any of this stuff.
Uma Kumaran MP@Uma_Kumaran

There’s clear evidence showing the disinformation onslaught. Hundreds of fake accounts with AI profile pics posting only about crime in London. @KingsCollegeLon research found huge spike in posts claiming London is “dangerous”. It went from 874 in 2008 to 258,444 in 2024

Problem is who gets to decide what "disinformation" is? I'd argue Khan's ridiculous assertions that London is safer because there are fewer homicides (totally ignoring soaring petty crime) are disinformation. So can I prevent him from saying it?
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

Freedom of speech is sacrosanct to our democracy. But disinformation is different. It’s bad-faith actors, often based overseas, who are monetising lies and hatred for their own political or financial gain. It’s the opposite of our democratic values.

"Disinformation"? From him? Seriously?????? The man who spends his entire life quoting selective statistics at us from tweets with replies turned off? Typical Labour, chillingly totalitarian.
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

Disinformation about London has become a global industry. The new “outrage economy” is growing - and it’s eating away at the bonds that hold our society together. That's why I'm calling for urgent action from social media companies and government. theguardian.com/media/2026/apr…

One of those weird days on X where lefties who normally scream for government action on everything desperately defending the right of businesses to charge preferential rates while the right argue for the state to intervene with private companies. #wewerealwaysatwarwitheastasia

Though interesting to see Jenrick jump straight on it, rather backs up @afneil's recent comments on Times Radio that Reform is as much, if not more, interventionist than Labour. All our main parties addicted to opining on and trying to regulate everything they can.

Poor Michael Simmons Speccie article getting a lot of blowback. Agree the headline is a bit clickbaity but the wider article is considerably more nuanced about why it is that UK society incentivises worklessness, discounts to tourist attractions just one example.

"A government stepping more lightly on your lives" latest Don't care about the fella particularly, never listened to his music or opinions. But my god I wish the government would stop interfering with stuff that's it's demonstrably not got anything to do with.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.

This is just the worst side of politics, this is absolutely naff all to do with the government. We've inculcated this weird world where government feels the need to involve itself in every controversy. Just say "it's not our job, if you've got a problem talk to the festival". x.com/Steven_Swinfor…

@TheMurkyDepths FB residents group suggests it has got worse since our break for freedom. Vagrants living in the stairwells, rats running all over the place & lifts constantly broken down meaning those with prams and wheelchairs are housebound (must have the same tech team as the big Tesco).

@TheMurkyDepths As a former resident it's one of the most appallingly maintained buildings it's ever been my misfortune to live in. Constant leaks through ceilings never fixed, no central heating, door constantly broken so people from the square just walked in & helped themselves to parcels.

Always liked how this block sits atop the podium. Who doesn't love a cantilever? And above a Wimpy no less.

Not sure the most depressing thing about every Labour MPs cookie-cutter tweet about "lifting children out of poverty", the sheeping, that they believe the utterly discredited relative poverty figure or that they think transformation is as simple as handing out taxpayer cash.

The discerning will notice the only "change" is ever more government handouts and control. You'll note nothing on this list is outwith direct government control and funded by the ever spiralling tax bill. I mean maybe it's change but it's certainly not progress.
Rachel Reeves@RachelReevesMP

Minimum wage rising 📈 State pension increasing 💷 Two child limit abolished 🏡 Child poverty falling 📉 Rights at work strengthened 💪🏻 Labour promised change. We are delivering change. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Of course Labour knows full well where this ends, zero benefit to any business in hiring someone who is pregnant and so ever more enforced sucking at the welfare teat but at least they've got a line that well meaning idiot MPs can parrot.

Labour, as ever, has no concept of how much long term absence impacts a business. Paying the absent person for not doing a job as well paying to hire someone for a fixed term to cover the actual role. Saying an employer should be liable for full maternity from day one is insanity

Got to love these weird mythical straw men Labour constructs. I'd be fairly certain no woman in history has given birth and been told to go back to work. What they mean is that employers, rightly, don't want to be liable to pay someone who's just started to be off for a year.
Luke Charters MP@lukejcr

Imagine holding your newborn child. And being told you have to go straight back to work, simply because you’ve just started a new job. That ends today. For all those hardworking parents who were denied those first precious days: Labour has delivered day one parental leave.

Bit of the old "saying the quiet bit out loud" here, why should someone not do everything to avoid tax? Weird weird fucking weird idea that somehow we all have a duty to give the state as much money as we possibly can.
Torsten Bell@TorstenBell

It’s for Richard Tice & HMRC to conclude on the specific legal position here. But it’s already clear this was someone doing absolutely everything to avoid paying the tax that ordinary people contribute week in week out. Oh, and he was meant to be a public servant at the time..

@TheMurkyDepths @WoolwichPigeon Was just asking this evening what was going on with the Gun Pit which sadly looks absolutely horrific at the moment - rivalled only by the painful state of the old White Swan in Charlton. Good to see plans although so much ridiculous untapped potential for that area.
