Please read — I feel that it’s important🙂 For ~24 hours, almost all banned #SeaOfThieves players were able to access the game.
In the two times that @SeaOfThieves has mentioned their second chance plan, they used specific wording that makes it clear only some accounts will receive this treatment (exact wording highlighted in replies). This is not how it should be rolled out. Sea of Thieves should take after @Fortnite and make this second chance available to every single banned account.
The 24-hour period where all bans were mistakenly lifted proved that this can work. There were no fires, no disasters — long-time banned players booted up the game and played it. Giving all banned players a second chance will not suddenly flood the game with cheaters.
Those who are habitual cheaters are already playing Sea of Thieves whenever they feel like it by using ban evasion methods. Luckily, Easy Anti-Cheat in SOT is in a very good place right now and has been detecting the more prominent cheat clients for its longest period ever.
With cheating at an almost all-time low, and those slipping through the cracks being removed via player reporting (a clip of someone quick-swapping will get them banned within 24 hours), now is the time for @SeaOfThieves to show some backbone and prove to us that they’re confident in both their new points system and their cheat detection. These players made mistakes, and I know that so many of them will never risk losing their account again, something that can only benefit the Sea of Thieves community as a whole. I, of course, in no way think that abusive language, gamer words, cheating, or anything else that resulted in a permanent ban was good. But people make mistakes, and a second chance is deserved.
And even for some players who probably don’t deserve a second chance, I’d much rather they have an account they care about losing than keep playing on alt after alt with virtually no meaningful repercussions. I’m asking @SeaOfThieves to take the bold, fair step: unban ALL players and give them the same second chance. Yes, there is always a risk with second chances. But the risk of letting problematic players roam freely on alt accounts leads to far more negative experiences for normal players. We know that player safety is a key focus for sot right now, and this change will motivate “bad actors” to behave themselves, making Sea Of Thieves a safer place. And if you feel a middle ground is required, let them back in with 11 out of 12 points in the new system, firmly displaying that not only are these players lucky to receive a second chance, but months of perfect behaviour is required to ensure they keep their accounts.
