@BStulberg I agree with you Brad. Nike is exceptional at storytelling yet I think they swung and missed on this message.

This Nike ad is peak inspiration bro internet culture, which is almost always detached from reality. Most elite athletes work VERY hard. They also respect their competitors, have loads of compassion, are neither delusional nor maniacal, and do not revel in being a bad person.

Sports allows us to see people at their highest highs and lowest lows. Celebration, crying, failure, anxiety. It's real and raw. That's why bonds between teammates last. Athletics makes us vulnerable. In real life, we seldom are.

Finally, the Olympics have an equal number of men & women competing. It's been a long road: 1896: 1st modern Games 1928: 1st woman competes 1984: Women allowed to marathon 2000: Women allowed to pole vault 2012: Women can compete in all events 2024: 1st Games with gender parity

We don't need to debate whether it's better to be a generalist or a specialist. The world needs both. Specialists excel at zooming in. They see the details to deepen our knowledge. Generalists excel at zooming out. They see around corners to broaden our view.

We need a return to shared humanity instead of us vs. them. Not sure how we get there. But one problem is... Hate and fear are powerful drivers that get people to attach to a group/identity. Modern social media/politics exploits this and amplifies it. It's a bad incentive.
