A lot of people asking me about Atlas 3i. Be aware most of the sensational headlines about it are flat out false. The object is behaving exactly the way an interstellar comet would be expected to. Space is cool enough without pretending everything is an alien spaceship 🤓

The video here is the raw video captured by the camera through the telescope before being processed. Jupiter appears 'blue', because the software I'm using is compensating for the atmospheric distortion which makes Jupiter very yellow and harder to post process. Also, it is easier to focus. As you can see in the video, Jupiter is not 'in focus'. Again, atmospheric distortion prevents a perfect focus when weather conditions aren't great. In fact, it's unlikely to get a perfect focus at an effective focal length of 7200mm. It was a nice evening as we'd say, but the upper atmosphere is full of water and winds which cause light to behave erratically.

𝗝𝘂𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗜𝗼, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗼'𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁 October 20, 2025 from 03:11AM to 03:35AM I captured 9 sets of video consisting of 2 minute sessions of Jupiter, the 5th planet from the Sun. At the time of the capture, Jupiter was about 468,942,000 miles from Earth and approaching at about 18 miles/second. I used my Skywatcher 16" newtonian telescope, a Tele Vue 4x Powermate, and an ASI462MC astronomy camera with a UV/IR cut filter attached. The filter prevents infrared and ultraviolet light from hitting the camera's sensor. The 'pink' dot on the right is Jupiter's moon Io (pronounced "eye-oh") and the black dot is its shadow. The shadow appears larger than the moon due an optical effect called umbral projection. #jupiter #astrophotography #planet #skywatcher #newtonian #io #moon #clouds #backyard #latenight

@KevinAstrokev Are you using a UV/IR cut filter? How about an ADC? I didn’t use any filters in my previous shots.

Saturn on the 8th Oct. The seeing wasn't the best but quite pleased how it turned out. For those who use Firecapture, I've been tweaking the RGB colour capture settings, which I'm still not happy with. Would be interested to hear what others do to get accurate colour rendition

@KevinAstrokev I did all three of these in Astrosurface and a few Photoshop tweaks on clarity. 16” (400mm) dobsonian. I had similar seeing condition out here in Texas. CS!
