@bcellorg @laradugas Could use the above diagram in reverse: each family is at the point and at risk by everyone they've come in contact w (currently all grey). If 2 families interconnect, then also share all their prior contacts, with problem don't know if anyone is red yet (due to 2 wk inc time)

@laradugas I guess what I’m thinking of is the same sort of illustration, but where each person has varying degrees of downstream connection (rather than all with 3). So then I could show that even someone with one connection can contribute significantly to downstream spread. Thanks again.

Does anyone out there have a good article or illustration/demo showing the importance of social distancing at a level appropriate for teens? I know there are good simulations on #COVID19 transmission floating around, but none that I’ve seen address a specific question... (1/2)

@bcellorg looks like much more fun than sitting here watching students write their midterm. Maybe next year...

It's that time of year again to support #BellLetsTalk Research is often hard, frustrating, disappointing and criticism can feel personal. Don't be afraid to reach out when it gets you down. There are people to listen and understand.

9. Finally, it's normal to feel bad/jealous/frustrated. These are normal human feelings but I try not to dwell on those. You have control over exactly one thing in science, the quality of the work you do. The best response to failure is to come back & do the best science you can

1. When people make announcements on science twitter they are typically joyous announcements about tenure, & grants & papers. But I think a key aspect of the job of being a scientists, maybe the most important one, is dealing with failure. So here are some thoughts about failure!
