Republican New Hampshire Senate candidate John Sununu says he supports a work requirement for seniors on Medicare: "I certainly support a work requirement for able-bodied Medicare recipients."

@NMaste999 @gina21764 @HQNewsNow So nothing. I have no idea whether he's corrected himself. I muted his account months ago. I don't even like him.

Go watch the full interview. Sununu didn't say "I support," he said "they certainly support." The "they" in question are New Hampshire voters: "Work requirements for able-bodied adults who receive Medicaid: 64 percent approve/20 percent disapprove." nhjournal.com/poll-from-endi… "'Would you support or oppose requiring able-bodied adults without young children at home to work, train, volunteer, be enrolled in an education program at least part time, or earn wages of at least $580 per month as a condition of eligibility for Medicaid?' Results: 70% support (strongly or somewhat), 20% oppose, 10% unsure." excellenceinpolling.com/wp-content/upl…

You're right that he probably meant Medicaid. But he said Medicare - on camera. That's either a gaffe from someone who can't distinguish the two programs, or it's the actual position. Either way: Medicare isn't a handout. Workers pay 1.45% of every paycheck into it their entire careers. A work requirement for Medicare means requiring people to keep working to access benefits they already paid for. Also worth noting - NH already tried Medicaid work requirements in 2019. Spent $130,000 on outreach. 17,000 people were about to lose coverage before the governor halted it. The policy failed on its own terms before it could be implemented. So which is it - a gaffe or a policy? Both answers are bad.

No one talks about work requirements for medicare. On the other hand, work requirements for medicaid is something that Republicans and Democrats fight over. Sununu misspoke. Like when Biden said "we finally ended medicare." I don't know what he meant, but it wasn't "we finally ended medicare."

@pvtjokerus @Trumplicanchic1 Isn’t the whole point of SCOTUS to decide if laws (even those passed by Congress) are constitutional? This dissent makes no sense

This is Justice Kagan’s dissent on the decision to end racial gerrymandering in Louisiana. So much is said in these few sentences. First, the Court DOES NOT implement the law. The Executive Branch does. Second, she plainly states that she just doesn’t like the decision because it would set back liberal agenda items. Zero to do with the law. This is leftist jurisprudence in one paragraph.

@clevergalCA @HQNewsNow He was talking about Medicaid and misspoke. It happens. Biden said "we finally beat Medicare." I'm not sure what he meant, but it wasn't "we finally beat Medicare."

@Rollegrey @HQNewsNow You just did the misspeak in the opposite direct from Sununu. He meant Medicaid and said Medicare. You meant Medicare and wrote Medicaid.

@Clemloke @HQNewsNow I mean he literally says able bodied Medicare recipients right in the video and if the logic is he is talking about the ones under 65 well you can only be on Medicare under 65 with a true disability so without the actual words, hes 100% referring to like 65-75 year olds here

The state rep told colleagues his "final solution" post on social media was a sarcastic joke. Nearly everyone else who spoke at the two-and-a-half-hour hearing, however, said his comments weren't harmless. bostonglobe.com/2026/04/28/met…
