I need to check a page reference. I know it’s from Benstock’s foreword. It’s ‘methodology composed of classical philology […] and contemporary linguistic approaches’. 🙏

@CleoHanaway As far as I know, Garry M. Leonard (professor emeritus of U of Toronto) argued it in his article "Women on the Market" (Joyce Studies Annual 1991, pp. 27-68). However, he did not say anything about Joyce's source.
