Just watched Dark Places (1974) - a delighfully creepy British psychological horror. Great cast: Christopher Lee, Joan Collins, Herbert Lom, Robert Hardy... and the lovely John Levene. Yes, Sergeant Benton himself! Wonderfully atmospheric old-school chiller. Real slow-burn dread!

My first exposure to Cyberman, this day in 1975. Often overshadowed by the Hinchcliffe masterpieces that follow, Revenge of the Cybermen is stark SF with a new take on Cybermen, atmospheric location work, and the Doctor, Sarah & Harry trio on top form. Great finale for Season 12.

@TeaNilso You know what? You've made a very rational and reasonable point, and you've helped me change my mind. True, I don't like Gatwa's era - but the gap in my line-up of Doctor figures just ain't right. I'm in. Thank you. 👍

@CleoWho Entitled to your own opinion but you don't have to be a fan of an era to have a figure of its corresponding Doctor. I'm not a massive fan of 13 or 14 but I'd still want a figure of them both.

Such a shame the range includes a Ncuti Gatwa figure - I can't abide him or his era. Being a build-a-figure set you have to buy them all, or buy none. I've made my choice; hard pass. Had the collection been all Classic Who figures you couldn't have taken my money fast enough!

DID you know? These photos — including a bird’s eye view of the various sets — from The Daleks’ Master Plan: Volcano was from a collection of colour pics that was never supposed to be made public by request of their owner, of which several (below) slipped out?

@archives1963 These are amazing to see. The resourcefulness of the set designer to maximise a limited space has to be admired. The choice of colours used for monochrome filming is fascinating. And look at the camera operators - I love the way men dressed back then.

@CharacterToysUK I won't be buying any if owning a Yeti includes having to buy a figure of the awful Ncuti Gatwa. Why not Matt Smith as 'Mr. Clever' instead? He'd go nicely with the Cybermen.

44 years ago (15 Feb 1982), The Visitation #1 aired with a cracker of an opening! Witty script, gorgeous period setting, the brilliant Richard Mace (I wish he'd returned), packed with action, tension, heroics and dastardly reptiles. Glorious stuff! I'll 'av me posset now. #DrWho

Today (13 Feb) in 1965, The Web Planet premiered. Early experimental Who; fully alien world, no humans beyond the crew, butterfly people, ant overlords & eerie Animus. Bold, atmospheric, genuinely weird. But slow pacing, annoying bleeping & greasy lenses make it a slog for some.

Today in 1966 (12 Feb), Doctor Who: The Massacre Ep 2 'The Sea Beggar' first aired. All episodes of this story are missing from the BBC archives & considered lost - but I reckon one'll turn up someday. A friend claims he watched a great VHS copy at a Local Group meeting in 1984.

Today in 1984 (Feb 8) part 2 of Resurrection of the Daleks first aired. The Daleks free Davros to cure a virus, triggering a chaotic civil war, a shocking amount of violence, and a huge death toll in '80s London. The horror of it all makes Tegan quit. A dark, high-stakes classic.

Today in 1970, Part 2 of 'Doctor Who and the Silurians' first aired. Hulke's complex script flips monsters into ancient denizens reclaiming Earth. The Doctor brokers peace amid paranoia, failed diplomacy and genocidal schemes. All culminating in a bleak ending. Peak Pertwee.

William Hartnell is clearly having the time of his life with Dennis Spooner's irreverent script; his comic timing is impeccable. Special mention too for guest star Michael Peake, who delivers a standout performance as the sly, secretly Christian courtier Tavius. Oh, strentiatum!

On this day in 1965 (February 6th) Doctor Who viewers saw the final episode of The Romans (Episode 4: 'Inferno') original broadcast. It brings the First Doctor's delightfully chaotic comedy of errors in Emperor Nero's court to a thoroughly satisfying close. (continues ⬇️)

The Robots of Death: Beautiful Art Deco robots bumping-off fallen bourgeoisie in a gripping Agatha Christie-esque whodunnit. Louise Jameson shines in her first proper companion outing. Russell Hunter, escaping 'Lonely' typecasting, is a revelation. Tom's ace. Superb Doctor Who!

Born this day in 1915: Peter Butterworth. A 'Carry On...' favourite with impeccable comic timing, but generations of Doctor Who fans will always cherish him as the mischievous time-meddling Monk.
