one fun perk of proficiency tests: materials often cite “science”. one less fun perk: finding the actual studies, matching the claim, then realising they had put a beret on these scholar names (fictionalised). (Aknin & Sandstrom, 2024, Commun Psychol; Liu et al., 2023, JPSP)

also shoutout to @IkeMDSilver1 and Alex Shaw (@uchicago), this paper builds on their work. got to chat with them at SPSP this year, they are impressive on paper, even more so in person! go check out their work on morals and reputations, seriously exciting stuff.

after 3 yrs, nearly 10 reviewers (2 rejections + 1 rebuttal), a 2-stage registered report with 3 rounds of revisions, this paper finally saw the light of day. that said, privileged it was read so carefully by so many. big thanks to @Kmura2 for sticking with me thru the dark.

Key 3: Whether the topic is of high interest/concern to that culture, does not explain the cultural difference in effect. Even across high- and low-interest topics from a 24-topic pilot, the trust penalty shows up consistently for the extracted issues.
