@Jace_TCG @MoonAlgo 30% gross margins on buying collections is far from net profit. You might end up making 10-15% net over time with a larger collection at 70%. What other business would you walk into wanting to trading 1 for 1 in value? Inventory is risk and turning inventory for 0% is loss.

@MoonAlgo They can pay for their overhead by selling at market and making 30% profit from collections they bought at 70%. Trading cards you got at 70% for market value means you still get 30% margins when you sell the new cards you got in a trade. I don’t see why you have to do 80% trade

At a card show. I pick out some cards and ask vendor if I can trade for them. “Uh sure we trade at 80%” “Why?” “We run a business.” “You can still meet your margins if you sell the cards you trade for at market though.” “Yeah I’m not gonna debate you on this” I left.

@Jace_TCG I typically have 6-8 tables at shows with inventory, pay people to run the tables, have travel cost, spend 9-10 hours at the show. You can’t make trades at 1 to 1 and be profitable. You only have so much time at a show.

You buy a card on eBay for $100. After taxes and shipping, it’s $115. Two months later, comps on the card go up to $150. You sell at a show for 80% Congrats! You just got very lucky and made $5.

am I the asshole here? Probably. Guy offers 12.4k for a card. I accept. Give him wire, zelle, and pp F&F options. Says he wants to pay G&S. Fine, new total of $12,832 for the fee. doesn't want to pay the fee and backs out of the deal. Am I suppose to eat the $432 fee here bc he doesn't want to send it wire/zelle/F&F? Whenever I'm buying cards and opt to pay G&S or use a CC I'm 100% being told I have to cover the fee every time.

@TaylorLewan77 Populations on many of these ultra modern Pokemon cards are insanely high compared to Jordan and Kobe inserts. I would be careful getting into high population ultra modern Pokemon cards at the top of the market.

The amount of heat I'm getting on this post is directly proportionate to the amount of pain retail will experience buying this IPO on day 1. And that's coming from someone who's bullish on Tesla and SpaceX. Just food for thought.
