This is very nice! A huge thank-you to my colleagues, collaborators, and mentors. Science is a team sport, and I’ve been very fortunate to be part of exceptionally collegial research networks from my days as a student in @envwaterloo, through to my current team @ECCCSciTech.

My role will be improving how we measure precipitation (mainly snow) in high latitudes, and using that information to improve computer models that predict future climate change.

Very big day for climate and atmospheric science in Canada. CSA investing $200m+ in next-gen Earth observation to improve understanding of climate change. Proud that @UWaterloo is partner in coast-to-coast science consortium. 🚀🛰️🌧️👏 canada.ca/en/space-agenc…

Excellent #AcademicTwitter discussion, with many useful references, on the perils of relying on precipitation from reanalysis systems (yes, even ERA5... 😲). Good to see CloudSat continuing to prove its worth. 🛰️🌧️

Stunningly awesome that climate scientists Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann are sharing in this year's Nobel Prize in Physics! Here's a @NaturePortfolio collection of work published and inspired by the winners. nature.com/collections/ej…

Did you know, that if CO₂ emissions go to zero, the atmospheric CO₂ concentration will decline, perhaps 100ppm over 100 years. That is since land & ocean sinks continue to take up carbon until equilibrium is reached. But... 1/ 4c-carbon.eu/resources/poli…

It's #WorldOceanDay! Note the singular 'ocean' as there is only one interconnected global ocean.

Interesting perspective as IPCC AR6 wraps: current climate science to reduce uncertainty in climate sensitivity ignores political realities and likely won't affect mitigation policy. Free version: rdcu.be/cj9b3

Impressively-quick turnaround on the CovidMIP results. Impacts of lockdowns mostly as expected: CO2 and aerosols⏬, locally more☀️in polluted regions, not enough to affect climate. Air quality/health impacts may be more interesting?
Prof. Tatiana Ilyina@ilitat

Did the Drop in COVID-Related Emissions Affect the Climate? - Results of the COVID-MIP now highlighted in EOS. Global emissions dropped markedly in 2020, due in large part to lockdowns, but the climate likely won’t be noticeably affected. eos.org/research-spotl…
