@BrandSanderson I'm an English teacher, and I'd love to teach your novella The Emperor's Soul next year to my seniors. What do you most want kids to get out of this book?
✨I'M GOING TO BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR✨
THRILLED to announce my sapphic YA thriller, HOW TO FIND A MISSING GIRL, is coming out in fall 2023 from @littlebrownYR! 💗 ✨
@DavidJoy_Author When you realize that you lost the story, can you go back to where it went bad, cut it to the stump, and just start from there? Or does it all have to go?
When I was a kid I used to spend entire days drawing. I’d work hours and hours on a picture and then I’d make a mistake and I’d ball the paper up and start over. That used to absolutely drive my mother crazy. She was a potter and artist and she always had this insane ability…
So many teachers are saying this is the worst year ever for them, that it's never been harder. Tell me:
1. What can your leadership do to make it better?
2. What can parents do to make it better?
3. What can your colleagues do to make it better?
@GothamChess I have started a small chess club at the high school where I work. We don't really need money, but a few videos on how to build a club and do tournaments would be amazing because I have no idea what I am doing.
Whip-poor-wills are back! If you wait quietly by the woods until after sundown, you can hear them yelling their name at the night. If that's not a sentence about a mythical beast in a dark fairy tale, then I don't know what is.

Does anyone else practice odd little rituals of gratitude toward plants and animals? For example, sometimes when I hike (especially when it’s snowy) I bring a bag of peanuts and create little food stashed on fallen logs and stumps. Just a small symbolic act. What do you do?
I just made the mistake of reading Thoreau's "Walking" at night, so I had to go stare at the way the snow was falling for half an hour. Changed texture three times while I watched. Good show. 5 stars.
Would anyone ever use something like this to talk about oral tradition? How would you use it? ttps://youtu.be/FhQLxGmU4QA

Do kids still have trained storytellers come to their classrooms in elementary school? Thoroughly trained, not just reading from a book, performance artists? Because I did, and I'd like to know where to apply. #edchat#storytelling#education
What are your favorite short stories and poetry to read during this time? Looking for suggestions for remote learning. #books#NCTEvillage#ncte#booktalk
I teach British Lit to kids who want more fantasy and science fiction. Does any one have a great short story I could throw into the curriculum? British or British post-colonial would be great. #booktalk#nctevillage#ncte#SciFiFri#fantasy
@naominovik Thanks so much! Also, you just blew my kids' minds that you responded to our question. We spent several minutes in class saying it at each other.
@ClintAlexander2 There's no wrong way because it's made up, but it's derived from the Polish word stary (old) and I say it "staah-rik" -- if you listen to a recording of someone Polish saying "stary" then that should give you an idea! #SpinningSilver
@naominovik I teach high school English, and my class is loving Spinning Silver. We have lots of great discussions, but one thing hampers us regularly: we don't know how to pronounce Staryk. Any suggestions? This book is the most loved of anything I have taught, by the way.
@caitteach I teach a lot of Cherokee kids at my school. I just make sure to use the same language to talk about all religious stories. If Cherokee creation stories are mythology, then so are Christian creation stories. Haven't had any serious problems yet.
@ustaazacasey@teacher2teacher I try to write something I notice about a different kid everyday. It makes me look for things to write, which makes me concentrate on having a relationship with all my kids. It also gets rid of "gray kids" that kind of fade into the background unnoticed.
Hey #teachers! Do you keep a teacher log/journal? Where at the end of every day you write a few bullet points/sentence or two about what you did + anything else of note (document interactions, etc). What would be good to keep track of? @teacher2teacher#edchat
