He's a director who can pretty much make anything he wants. He's obviously making the movies he wants at this stage of his career. If that doesn't satisfy you (and others) I'll bet he's not giving that a second thought.

Watch everything he's done. He has NEVER phoned it in. Him winning the Oscar wasn't a turning point in his career as an actor. He's always strived to work with the best and give his best.

Might be a controversial take but when I think about it, Leo's been the best part of every movie he's been in post-Revenant. Just feels to me like he's stepped up his game since being freed from the relentless pursuit of an Oscar, but the popular consensus hasn't caught up yet.
