We lost him 12 years ago today. One of Britain's finest parliamentarians. And a man of deep principle.

Lucky enough to have met and worked with the Reverend Jesse Jackson several times. I first met him when I was a young boy and my dad took me to hear him speak at St James’s Piccadilly. Later I booked him as a guest on a BBC show I was producing in New York for the 2008 Presidential Election. Then I made a short film with him for the BBC This Week programme. We were driven down Portobello Road in a stretched limo that we’d hired and when he got out, people streamed out of shops to greet him. A news photograph had been taken of him holding my brother in one arm and me in the other back in the 1980s and he was delighted when I showed it to him decades later. He wasn’t on air until after midnight and I had to quite literally mop his brow with a cold flannel before he went on it was so late. And here is the Five Minutes With interview I recorded with him (during a short lived experiment in the series when I actually took questions in with me and we used an on screen counter to mark them). Jackson was a huge and important figure in American politics who helped lead the country into a brighter future.
