Groups of masked men burning families out of their homes is nothing less than disgusting cowardice. This has nothing to do with community. This is outright thuggery. The attack in North Belfast was heinous and wrong. But there are dangerous attempts to exploit that to target and attack innocent people who are simply trying to live, work and raise their families here. Racism, intimidation and violence are wrong wherever they occur. There can be no excuse and no justification for these attacks tonight. No one wants to see this on our streets and I again appeal for calm.

There is understandable disgust & revulsion at the horrific attempted murder that took place last night. I share that revulsion. But the scenes we are witnessing tonight, family homes attacked, cars burnt, damaged infrastructure & parts of our community in flames, are shameful & disgraceful. No one has the right to spread fear, terrorise innocent families or unleash lawless disorder on our streets. I spent today on the ground in north Belfast, & the message from local residents was clear: the focus must remain on supporting the victim, standing with his family & ensuring the perpetrator is brought to justice. The actions of those who are destroying their own communities are totally unacceptable. It is clear that the horrendous attack last night is being used to whip up fear, division & hatred. That must be called out.

Currently 0 standalone GAA council run pitches in Lisburn and Castlereagh Council and the new Pitches Strategy only references one potentially. This is not acceptable! Our SF team in LCCC will continue to fight for more GAA and sports provisions in the council area.

The DUP has blocked the Good Jobs Bill from reaching the Assembly floor, blocking what would be the most progressive workers’ rights legislation ever introduced in the north. Once again, they’ve shown where they stand when it comes to workers, rights and equality.

Good to catch up with First Minister @moneillsf in Lisburn yesterday ahead of meetings with local businesses. Lisburn has huge economic potential, and Sinn Féin is committed to creating jobs, attracting investment and delivering opportunities across the city.

Today, Sinn Féin joined a large protest in Belfast as part of the ‘Global Movement for Gaza’. The people of Gaza are being starved by Israel and the genocide is continuing unabated We must continue to be the voice of Palestine and demand a future of peace, justice and freedom🇵🇸

We took part in an important discussion and training session with @BHFNI in Brook Leisure Centre. BHF Revivr programme is a simple but much needed training programme in CPR and Defibrillator use - you can even do this at home on your phone by searching - BHF Revivr Try it out.

@AntrimLGFA in All Ireland final on Sunday yet @AontroimGAA have pencilled in senior championship games for the same day. You would have thought lessons would have learnt from the last time this happened.

Children should be allowed to play together at summer camp without facing intolerance. These developments are deeply worrying and unacceptable. Sport has the power to unify. Political representatives must call this out. We need to send a clear message that we will continue moving forward together to build a brighter society and overcome such unacceptable intolerance.
