The 2024 Cheshire East Council annual report by the Director of Public Health titled ‘the commercial determinants of health’ stated that 5 industries are responsible for more than half of all global deaths. The 5 industries are food, tobacco, alcohol, gambling and fossil fuel

I continue to follow the situation in the Middle East with dismay. Like other regions of the world, it is torn apart by war and violence. We cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering of so many defenseless victims of these conflicts. What wounds them wounds all of humanity. The death and pain caused by these wars is a scandal for the entire human family and a cry that rises to God!

I am delighted to have been selected as the next Mayor of Sandbach. I will take over from John Arnold at the town council meeting on 20 May. I am looking forward to meeting and supporting many of the wonderful volunteer groups in Sandbach during my Mayoral year.

As a member of the bill committee I shared serious concerns about this bill being unsafe & deeply flawed. The House of Lords will fix it said many, convincing MP’s to let it pass. Well The ‘House of Lords’ didn’t fix it! The Assisted Dying Bill is not safe and remains deeply flawed!

The killings in the last 24 hours of 14 health workers in southern #Lebanon mark a tragic development in the escalating Middle East crisis. @WHO has confirmed that 12 doctors, paramedics and nurses were killed in a strike late last night on the Bourj Qalaouiyeh primary healthcare center. Just hours earlier, two paramedics lost their lives in attacks on a health facility in Al Sowana. These incidents highlight the ongoing assault on Lebanon’s healthcare system, which is crucial for the populations it serves. Since March 2, WHO has verified 27 attacks on healthcare in Lebanon, resulting in 30 deaths and 35 injuries, including the horrifying events of Friday. WHO condemns this tragic loss of life and emphasizes that health workers must always be protected. According to international humanitarian law, medical personnel and facilities should never be attacked or militarized. The intensification of conflict in Lebanon and the broader Middle East increases the likelihood of such tragedies. Urgent action is required to de-escalate the crisis and protect the health of people throughout the region.

On behalf of the Christians of the #MiddleEast, and of all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: cease fire! May paths of dialogue be reopened! Violence can never lead to the justice, stability and peace for which the peoples are waiting.

A very good town council surgery this morning with Mayor John Arnold. Several issues raised including a man who is taking food from retailers’ bins and leaving it outside. I think it is intended to feed the birds but it is far too much. Today I helped remove a dozen doughnuts!

The funeral of Father Pierre El-Rahi, Maronite parish priest of a Christian village, is celebrated today in #Lebanon, as these villages once again experience the tragedy of war. I am close to all the Lebanese people in this time of grave trial. Fr. Pierre was a true shepherd. As soon as he heard that parishioners had been wounded in a bombing, he rushed to help without hesitation. May the Lord grant that the blood he shed become a seed of peace for beloved Lebanon. #PrayTogether

The purpose is to build a new traffic model for the area which will be used to evidence both the Council’s new Local Plan. A road-works embargo has been put in place to make these counts are representative as possible; emergency works will still be allowed. 2 of 2
