Fun fact: In Primary 5, I made it to the National final of the @Closeupng essay competition, and Unilever lodged us finalists at this hotel before the grand finale. It’s one of my core childhood memories, especially as it was my first all-expenses-paid stay at a hotel. During the final, we were taken on a tour of the Unilever factory at Billings way, Oregun, and unknown to us, the final questions came from that tour. Representing Lagos, I lost first place to a girl from Abuja 😡. She won a piano and cash prize while I came second and won a camera and cash prize too. I was sad because I had my eyes set on that piano as a lover of music, but little did I know that my adult life would depend heavily on my versatility with a camera. It was also the first time my family featured in the news. My dad bought all the newspapers that carried the story that year and archived them with our family photos for guests to enjoy. Life has a way of unfolding despite our ignorance of the future.
