a lot can be said about ATLA's politics but I do think Aang not simply killing Ozai is one of the most important, resonate choices the show made.
Because it's refusing to cede the very last crumb of a nearly dead culture's beliefs. That's worth something.

The “just give it back and move elsewhere” idea sounds clean on paper, but the show’s world is built around centuries of population shifts, refugees, and Fire Nation colonies that became home to people over generations.
That’s kind of the point of Aang’s arc too—he’s not just undoing conquest, he’s trying to rebuild a world where coexistence is even possible after it. And Zuko’s whole deal is acknowledging harm while also dealing with the fact that “where do millions of people go?” isn’t a simple reset button problem.
