This whole messianic post by Trump has troubled me, and I wrote up my take. Thought I'd do a quick post to get it off my chest so I'd stop thinking about it and go back to my hiatus: A United States President has no obligation to follow Christ; church and state are separate, and the office is open to politicians irrespective of their faith or lack thereof. Invoking the name of Christ for political gain while attempting to identify as a messianic figure isn’t unlawful. The recent photo post, more “dipping toe in the pool” of ‘will they think I’m messianic’ isn’t and shouldn’t be illegal. Neither should Jewish supporters telling him he is the Jewish Messiah, or others convincing him is meant to usher in Armageddon. His own “Christian” spiritual counsel said he is just like Jesus; he followed with “they call me king too” after mentioning Jesus. Again, not unlawful. He even has the right to pretend he was posting himself “as a doctor… fake news.” While too intelligent not to know exactly what he was testing, he also knows those following will accept whatever explanation he gives. Their allegiance lies with following his path, his power. It is fine if you believe his actions irrelevant or a joke. You should not face any negative consequence for your stance and you have the ability to speak your support of his statement, his explanation, and also back the justifications spouted by countless politicians including our own Catholic Vice President. I too have the right, the freedom, to voice how I view the above: “They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.” Titus 1:16 Accepting this is no different than calling for Christ’s crucifixion if he were to return and stand before us today. Here, now, Jesus would be seen as a threat to political power. He would not condemn Trump, but neither would he flatter, which would be his undoing. 'Give to Trump what is Trumps' would not suffice now any more than it did then. I believe Christ would kick over the tables of Paula White in the temple, disavow any bible bearing a politician’s name, especially one exchanged for silver, and condemn calling any political leader 'messiah.' Christ would be characterized as a fraud by those in power who would, like the Pharisees, use religion and those with religious power surrounding them to justify destroying him. I see all those denying Christ now, justifying the post and the statements, as no different than members of the crowd screaming for the release of Barrabas. You have that lawful right in our beautiful, free country. I do not seek to interfere with it. I also can’t judge you one way or another as I miss the mark more often than I strike the goal in my walk. Your accountability is between you and your God, or no God if that’s the case. I don’t seek to silence you, persecute you, or in any way impinge on your rights. But I will not politely nod or smile and pretend we are the same. I’ve no interest in suffering the chirping of those who seek to justify heresy. If this offends you, unfollow, block, mute… whatever. I enjoy debates on X, but as for those who seek to convince that this is all really ok, don’t worry, trust the politician’s plan no matter what is done… No. I don’t want your justification to affect me or for my silence to somehow be seen as acquiescence, because my environment does affect me, no matter how immune I may believe myself to be. We are all malleable, given enough time, enough input. The small, continuing drip of water can wear away the thickest steel. I will not have my eyes or ears filled with those who justify heresy and sit silently. I’ve had the debates and discussions and those who post now are simply attempting to justify their own abandonment of principle, which seems the way of things of late. Unlike discussions of international policy, trade, or budget, this isn’t a point of justifiable debate for me any longer. It is simply wrong. Do as you will. Just do it elsewhere. I’ve blocked more since this incident than at any time since I rejoined X. I’d rather listen to and affiliate with a sincere atheist than a fake Christian. Give me a bar brawling, whiskey drinking sinner who knows he is lost above any who claim to know Christ while holding up a politician as a messiah. We follow a different God. Please follow yours somewhere other than my feed or comments. Now back to my X hiatus.
