@VAPAJeannine Having “word banks” can help, too. Categories of ideas and specifics, ex: elements (color, line, shape, etc), arrangement (above, below, left, right, etc), can help students articulate what they see.

A1. Leo from CoTA. Posting late, but was intrigued about the image for Q1, so I had to drop by. I see ovals making circles. Black and white. Movement from stillness. It’s a bit dizzy, disorienting. 😵‍💫

A3: Last night! I’m enrolled in UCSD Extension’s Children’s Book Writing + Illustration program and I’m reading and reviewing children’s stories + books, as well as reading classmates’ reviews every week. Pictured is one of my recently-reviewed books.  #CaArtsEdChat

A4: I live it. It seems every time I draw, my style evolves. Very much need to discipline myself towards consistency for a particular project. Here’s my two latest. Left is ink, crayons + digital. Right is digital. #CaArtsEdChat

A3: Love it, though I cheated w/ previously-written haiku. Thanks 4 letting me share. 😌 Let’s do more of this, por favor! I enjoy the occasional jump into new unfamiliar playgrounds. Sometimes, I’ll stay and play (as I’ve done with poetry in the past couple years). #CaArtsEdChat

A2: By having student artists demonstrate processes and techniques. Save some of that “teacher” stuff for them to do, to emphasize the idea they can learn from each other. #KeepKidsCreative #CaArtsEdChat

@PCrooks_VAPA Reach out to your partners and ask what types of projects and topics they would like to play with. Our recent Literary Institute focused on POV in narratives. Later in the school year, we’ll host a Math-based Visual Arts workshop, based on teacher requests.

A2: Arts = connection. We’re happy to host occasional workshops with community members beyond our regular Teaching Artists. Most recent was with Amy Spencer of San Diego Book Arts. gph.is/g/4DW2WJO?tc=1 #CaArtsEdChat
