Bree Carrico has been one of this season's early breakout stars. The Virginia Tech righty has had good swing-and-miss stuff with her riseball and a bit of a funky off-speed. @SynergySportsSB | @HokiesSoftball

Thread (1/8) I’ve been involved in youth sports and elite college athletics for 45+ years. Every time I say that, I’m humbled. I’ve seen generations of athletes grow, struggle, rise, and thrive.

Players vs coaches on starting as a college freshman. Jumping from HS to college & starting is everyone’s goal, but do players really know what will get them penciled in the starting 9 or earn playing time? I can sum it all up in one word “TRUST.” Does you coach trust you to get the job done more than your competition for that position on offense and defense. To increase odds of making this objective a reality, one must know what coaches are really looking for from a starter. * Players vs. Coaches below * @nextlevelbb @DirtBroUSA @CoachTaberM

Recruits, travel coaches, parents of recruits, check this out! This is the 2025-26 NCAA D1 🥎 Recruiting Calendar. It may make no sense looking at it now, but I’m going to help break it down! Aug 11-Nov 23 (blue 🔵) is an evaluation period, meaning D1 coaches can evaluate you in SCHOLASTIC events (meaning high school practices/games, or even camps hosted by colleges). So, NOT travel ball tourneys EXCEPT for 6 weekends in Oct & Nov. These 6 weekends in Oct & Nov are marked with a * small black asterisk * in corner on the calendar…AND only Sat & Sun are open for recruiting. In other words, if you’re playing in an ‘exposure’ tourney in Sept, you will not see a single D1 coach. If you’re playing in a tourney on one of those select weekends in Oct/Nov where recruiting is allowed but the tourney starts Thurs or Fri, you will not see (or GET SEEN by) any D1 coaches until Sat/Sun. (Disclaimer: I’m not a believer in a ‘D1 or bust’ mindset - but you should understand what you’re signing up for.) Camps! D1 schools can host camps, but if it’s a camp at a tourney or through a travel team or private company, D1 coaches can only be there if it’s on Sat or Sun on one of those designated 6 weekends. 🔴 Red 🚫DEAD🚫 periods are sprinkled throughout the calendar when NO on or off campus recruiting can happen. Calls and texts CAN happen, but no in person contact. The 🟣 purple dates are recruiting shutdowns, a newer addition, when D1 coaches can’t email/text/call - they can’t even like tweets during those dates! Important to remember the difference between Dead and Shutdown. Sept. 1 is during a dead period = don’t worry 2027s coaches can call/text, but you can’t visit campus until the dead period is over. Nov 24-Dec 30 (🟤 tan on calendar) is a QUIET period = no D1 recruiting off campus. Camps hosted by colleges are cool, but that’s about it. Jan 3-May 25 (in blue 🔵) is that rather misleading evaluation period again…evaluation for SCHOLASTIC events only. High school practices/games, and camps hosted by colleges. No travel tourneys…there are NO dates from Jan-May when D1s can attend travel tourneys. There’s another 🚫DEAD🚫 period during the D1 WCWS in May/June but after that, we are in the 🟢 green 🟢 (think green = go) contact period from June 6-early August. (August is when the 2026 NCAA Calendar will pick up!) Contact period: D1 coaches can recruit just about anywhere: travel tourneys, high school games (yes, some states play HS during the summer), college camps and other camps hosted by tournaments, travel teams, private companies, etc. And, for select graduation years, D1s can actually have contact (talk face to face) off campus, like at the fields after your games. I hope this helps some people out there. I just think it’s important that people have accurate info when making decisions about what tourneys/camps to attend, I know it’s a lot of 💸 💸 💸
