@chriscfore To each his own. I guess if I was "traditional" i wouldn't have to change my whole scheme. Just dont understand why they need to make a rule

It's why I said "traditional," Coach. Lots of folks have gotten away from the traditional scheme, and at the college level specifically it's why so many get blocked. Many coaches out think themselves at that level, get cute, and don't account for physics. It's a much more simple scheme than some folks make it.

The traditional shield punt scheme with 1 yard between each lineman keeps your guards and tackles inside 5 yard box. If you spread wider than that, it's not the traditional shield punt, and there are other/bigger issues. ShieldPunt.com

Here's the link to the CFO2026 Preseason Video 1 Scrimmage Kick Numbering. This video lays out the nuts and bolts of the new NCAA "punt rule." 🚨🚨Major Changes: 1. Formations must be 2x2 on either side of the snapper. Unless there are five players, wearing numbers 50-79 on the LOS. 2. Players are locked into the 2x2 formation with the Guards & Tackles in, or touching the tackle box. No shifting, and they are ineligible. 3. If five players wearing 50-79 are on the LOS, normal football rules go into effect (shifting/eligibility). 4. If a team elects to change player jerseys to alleviate numbering exceptions, a team may fill out a form and present it to the referees in the pregame meetings. These new rules for the college football punt do not change one thing for the traditional (and BEST!!) way to carry out the Shield Punt. It eliminates some of the dumb ways coaches have been getting punts blocked, I mean trying to punt the ball from jacked up formations that don't protect the kick.
